Well, I'm not doing anything today. I am so exhausted I can barely keep my eyes open!
Ouchies for AngelPunks - get in some good stretches hun!
i am meant to be doing step today but i am really not feeling like it. i have a really sore throat and headache and had a bad night with dd2 wanting to breastfeed ALL NIGHT! i am still tossing it up though cause it would suck to miss out on the week that i want to start back up again. oh i looked up attack and my gym only does it twice a week both on thursday and thursdays are no good for me.. bummer!
Well, I normally have PT today but don't because D is away :( I feel disjointed :( Have promised DD a picnic but will try and get on my treadmill if she has a nap. AND I have to do my core stuff today - I'm still sore so need to get it all back into line ASAP.
I had a WEIRD dream last night! I dreamt that D and I were at some different venue for PT and he left me for a few minutes to do an exercise near some rough nuts who were boxing whilst he went to get equipment. But they got too close and hit me in the temple! :o I swear I could actually feel it! Then, in my dream, when D comes back, he goes nuts at the guys for hitting me and takes me somewhere else in the venue to train and he's all mega protective (he is anyway due to certain issues) and I'm all sooky lala (so not me IRL!) and scaredy cat! :o Eek!
Push through it Hollo - you'll feel so much better after for doing it - honest!!
Oh wow, MG - that is a bizarre dream! Double eeek!
Leesa - I would I am really unfit and then unco lol. I haven't got a gym membership, so my exercise is at home atm. There is a PT who holds classes in the park near me and he only charges $3. I'll check out his program. Funnily my fav class as a teenager was Step. Many, many, many years ago. Then I did Pump in my early 20's, and after that I only ever did cardio/weights. Although I've done nothing but the treadmill (on and off) for the last 4 years.
CQueen - FRD's rofl yep I remember those types. Combat..hmm sounds interesting. What do you do in a Combat class? Is it low impact. I have a sore lower back since having my last bub. I will be off to the chiro soon to see if they can help me sort this out.
Leesa, I need to pick your brains! I'm heading off to a Pump class today - first time back to one in 18months. What weights should I do? Also, I'm short & stocky & liable to bulk up easily. I would like to have long lean muscles - what exercise is best for this?
Thanks!
PS Wish me luck for today, I'm killer sore from yesterday's Combat, but figure I have to keep going, can't lose momentum!
:bump: Just bumping cos I know that Leesa is floating around!
DD's sleeps interupted plans for Pump so its back to Combat again!
Hey Winter - sorry chic, I was doing Body Jam .
With your first class just use the smallest plates available throughout the entire class. This is just to focus on getting your technique correct (if you do happen to do a move incorrectly then you'll have less weight / pressure and be more likely to recover for the mistake easily enough, hopefully your instructor will see you are new to the class and keep a watchful eye out).
From that class on try to increase the weights on the second track (squats) - they can take a pounding as you've probably realised after doing Combat yesterday! :D.
You sound similar to me in body shape, and I use 20kgs during squats and lunges now - and I don't bulk up. Why? Because we are using a light weight, for a longer period of time. It's when you start heading into the gym and doing weight training that you can 'bulk up' - as that type of training is usually focussed on low reps and high (ok, insane) weights. So don't stress about bulking up in Body Pump, it won't happen :D.
Sorry I didn't reply earlier hun! I feel terrible!
I would offer the same advice to yourself as I practice myself re - the lean body. Each week do 2 Pump classes, and do another form of cardio exercise 5 times a week. Depends on how serious you are about achieving your goals. If there are no medical issues to consider 3 x 30mins of exercise is not enough to shed some serious kg's and change the shape of your body. I like to think I train hard - however not everyone is able to do that. If you can seriously commit to training an hour each day (2 x pump and 3 x combat for example) then THAT is awesome. If you can take DD for a walk in the pusher on the other two days (incidental acitivity) - then all the more power to you! :-)
BekZ - Combat...the best way I can sum it up is by showing you this...I love this clip, it pretty much sums up exactly what Combat is to me...(just skip through the first 1min15secs). BTW that isn't me lol...I wish it was(although her name is Rach and she is English)! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-cVAES9kAI
Hope you enjoy it - I still get goosebumps everytime I watch it! Dont' get freaked out by it though - what they're doing is the high impact option and there are HEAPS of low impact options. If you come to one of my classes I give them through out :)
Thanks for the clip Rach - It looks scary lol
BecZ - nothing to be scared about hun, it's all the little technique things which will be explained to you through out the class - that make you end up looking like that....
Hmmm, that clip even makes ME want to do Combat lol!!
However I've got called in for a class tomorrow night, Balance - first class I'll be teaching in 13mths :o - but I'm really looking forward to it - and i don't have to wear shoes, how cool is that! I better polish up on my Balance technique.
:bump:
No slacking off now ladies!!!
What's going on out there? :D
Hi Leesa!!
Don't laugh but I did the Pregi Bellies dvd today and I nearly passed out 3 times!!! I am not pregnant but I thought it would be a good way to start. Does anyone know this dvd? I find it hard to do some of the moves whilst sitting on the fit ball, but I really like the strength training part.
Ladies - I am tall and a pear shape with a high body fat percentage. Ultimately, what is the best exercise for me?
yeah, i am a slacker i didnt go the other day. i was all dressed and bag packed, dropped hannah off at day care and then came home cause there was about an hour until the class. put chels on for a booby feed and she fell asleep. considering the crappy night we had i decided to let her sleep! not there isnt a good class on until next tuesday. there is combat tonight... i know you guys are fans but i just dont think it is me.
bek, not sure what would be the best for you. something you like. walking maybe to start things off ( i myself hate walking). maybe a group sport? or just doing some cardio at the gym.. like exercise bike or treadmill?
Bek - it is a challenging DVD that one! I did it after DD and also struggled!
I have pilates with my physio tonight... so no PT and no treadmill time. I actually wouldn't mind a treadmill session though. Not sure if I'm looking forward to pilates or not. Haven't been for over a month due to physio being away... and not feeling particularly motivated tonight. I want to go to bed!
I did Body Balance this morning and ahhh the relief! My aching muscles feel all nicely stretched out now! YAY! I love the scorpion move with the pushups, I want to do that again!!!
I joined the gym today, signed up for 12 months so here comes the new, fit me!!
(And then I ruined it by eating chips because I didn't get a chance to eat a proper lunch & let myself get hungry -:redface:)
Hey guys, things are going well with me...I ran yesterday for the first time since my injury (3 months) which was amazing!! I forgot how much I love it! Then I did leg weights with my friend who is nasty...he kills me! Then taught last night and managed to do both sets of 16 single push ups on my toes for the conditioning track (yay me!).
Taught again this morning and was a no go on the push ups on toes - did the first set and second set I only got to 8 before I had to drop down...had better technique though!
Was supposed to do Pump tonight (and eye up this PT i've been flirt texting with!!!) at one of the city gyms but everyone bailed on me and I didn't want to turn up by myself (LAME)!!!
So now I don't know what to do...might go for a run!
Oh my body is so sore..but I feel good for doing something:D:D
CQ - awesome work with running - and your push up efforts were also golden - what an awesome start. Only 8 more on the toes till you complete the entire track .
BekZ - well done for getting up and doing something - that is a start in the right direction. The only way from here in on the up now sista! :D As for what exercise is best for your body shape / type - I would recommend (like I would for anyone else) 2 'weights' sessions (light weight with high reps - or a Body Pump class) and 2 -3 cardio sessions each week (try to aim for 300 mins a week in total). That is the new research fresh from the USA to lose weight. Cardio can be either a fitness class, on cardio equipmemt, brisk walking - anything that gets ya moving and your heart rate up.
Winter - glad you enjoyed Body Balance and signed up at the gym. Once again I feel terrible for not giving you the Pump advice earlier the other day .
MG - how did pilates go with the physio? Pilates can be gruelling at the best of times let alone one on one with a physio.
Hollo - you should give Combat a try. Heaps of people don't think its them until they experience it. Still a percentage after their first try don't gel with Combat, but they've given it a crack. I usually tell participants give it a few tries to get the hang of it and then make up your mind whether you want to come back or not .
AFM - gave the new RPM a crack yesterday - it was awesome, always great to hear new motivating music and choreography. I taught my first Balance class since having Blake last night and I didn't miss a beat and nailed the choreography. The class was a bit louder than I'd like participants to be during Balance, but I just went along with it and laughed along with them - fairly casual bunch, but great laughs were had by one and all!
Hi girls,
Been following your thread for a couple of days - you made me miss doing the combat/jam/pump classes I used to do at the gym. Got me thinking about re-joining a gym to shift a bit of post baby weight. Now I've just got to check a new one out down the road a bit (to see if they do the Les Mills stuff) and see what they're like - they sound affordable at the moment. Not quite sure where I'm going to fit it in getting there though. (Already do pilates on Monday evenings - but we're on the Christmas break still until the end of the month)
Welcome Leckert!!!!
What gym are you looking at? Fitness First Holden Hill? They definatley have Les Mills classes :D.
Nah We've got Jett's just starting up at the Valley View (cnr of Nelson & Grand Junction Rds). Apparently you can access it 24hours a day and no lock in yearly contracts (going by the flyer) - job for today is to check out the online info a bit more (might check out the Fitness First too).
My problem is not getting to the gym often enough to actually make it worth the money I end up spending.
Oh, must be a new place - I've never heard of them either! Let me know what you think of them :D.
Hi Leckert - How is Blake going?
Leesa - Thanks for the information. Great going with your Balance class.
CQueen - What area are you teaching in? I am in Windaroo, are you close? Once I do a few weeks of exercise at home I'll pluck up the courage to join a class. Thanks for the offer of a trail pass too.
We've set DD's christening date for Easter, which is in early April. My goal is to drop a dress size by then and to feel more alive than I do right now lol.
Jetts - Looks like no classes :( just the equipment with 24hr access, staff available at certain times (eg PTs). Off to look at Fitness First - If I go back to a gym, I want the classes too!!!!!!
ETA - Just wish Gyms would give you a price range at least online so you have some idea of how much your likely to spend - Can't find out a weekly/fortnightly range for Fitness First without having to ring them or have them ring me :(
opps double post
hmm, i think they do that so they are more likely to lock you in when you do the tour of the gym. but, if they tell you the price try and act as if you arent sure, you want to but its too much and they will most likely lower it a bit. this happened to me when i joined with genesis and to a friend of mine to. they would only do the 'deal' if i joined that day though.
Hun Goodlife is about $70 a month and I think FF is around the same if not a bit more. The bad thing with FF though is with childcare you can only go one of two shifts (9-10.30 or 10.30-12) and it's about $4 a session. Goodlife is $1 per child per hour (max of $2 so if you have 3 kids you only pay $2) and you can go anytime the cc is open :)
Bekz - I was near you the other day - had my CRP refresher at Beenleigh RSL :) the closest place to you I teach is Holland Park...but I can come with you to a class at Huperdome if you wanted? I team teach there a lot :)
Well done Leesa for gtting back into it!! When are you coming to QLD so we can TT??
Thanks for that CQ - used to be with Goodlife (might go back again)
Okay - booked a tour tomorrow with FF (Yay!!) now have to see what they're like and make a decision.
I know what GL's like so if I'm not too sure about FF, I might (no better make that WILL) :think:go and check out the price at GL again - I know they do Aqua aerobics too which I really like:redface:
I think I might need some extra encouragement later once I've joined up again to keep going to the gym though - will let you guys know how I'm going otherwise I'm likely to drop off going again and waste it. :(
Good for you! FWIW the FF gyms are all a lot newer and flashier than GL. The Holland Park GL is nice and new...thats the closest one with pool to you. Hyperdome and Helensvale are nice and new but small (in shopping centres) with no pool. Some of the other ones are older (Alex Hills, Graceville etc) buildings but all have pools. There are a lot more FF's near you though...but I don'[t teach there so they much suck!
Also there are some Fernwoods near you but then you can't check out the guys so whats the point...!
CQ - I live in South Aust - down near Leesa :)
Oh haha - i'm getting confused - Holland Park is not really that near then is it!
Pilates was good, thanks for asking Leesa! I do clinical pilates for rehabilitation though so whilst it usually IS gruelling, it is aimed a little differently as we're trying to get me to a point where I can run safely again. But yesterday's session was much easier than normal actually. Everything was the same but it FELT easier! Which is GREAT! It means that my core has improved! The only issue I had was with the scooter exercise which felt like it was pinching a little. But all good!
I am not doing any exercise today... I was hoping to get on the treadmill today (in fact planning on it) but I am just so tired again (just a few hours sleep last night due to DD). I did however, walk to and from the dentist which was about 15 min each way. I was stoked because that same walk used to take me over 30 min! But I am avoiding the treadmill because I am thinking my relapses are related to fatigue - I get sloppy when I'm tired hence re-triggering injuries. So I am resting today - treadmill tomorrow!
I'm really cranky and grumpy because I didnt' get to the gym today (my fault, bit tipsy last night so slept in) and I won't get there tomorrow because i'm tiling :(
Plus we just went to Maccas - had a seared chickn wrap but still...
I didn't go to the gym today either. DD had a mini tantrum this morning and I figure she probably is letting me know that she needs her mummy! She was soooo good this week with going to the creche like a big girl, so I can cut her some slack.
Have to get organised to go tomorrow...can't decide whether I want to do a Pump class or the ladies gym circuit class....suggestions? To help you decide, I did 2x Combat & 1x Body Balance this week.
And don't feel guilty Leesa, I so appreciate your advice about the weights & pump! Its like having my very own PT online!! We'll have to start paying you & Combat Queen!!
Take it from me hun, money doesn't matter...you don't get into the fitness industry to make money trust me lol!
I'd say Pump - not knowing what the circuit is all about i'd say it's prob a bit of both cardio and weights and I think you'd be better off having a pretty solid weight session like Pump.
Good for you btw - combat, balance and pump is a really nice balance :)
CQ - you can do a little impromtu Combat class at home any time you like - no excuses now . What are ya tiling? (Shall I pardon the pun there he he - nice one!).
Winter - definately take the Pump class :D. I think I speak for CQ and myself here - I just love inspiring people to exercise, I don't need dollars - I prefer to hear your success stories instead - they are worth far more to me!
MG - Yep, it means you're core is working much better now if you find the session is a bit easier for you to get through. You've strengthened those muscles now, and you'll be back to running in no time!
Leckert - I used to love it when the FF at Holden Hill was called Intensity Fitness (a few yrs back now) - so I'm not sure what its like there anymore. But it's a 'brand name' gym, so you should love it :). Let us know which one you decide on!
Doh you're so right! I'll do myself a Combat/Pump double tomorrow night!
I actually am tiling tomorrow! My best friend is a tiler and I work for him sometimes...he lent me some money last week so i'm going to work it off tomorrow! But then I have Hypno in the arvo which i'm looking forward to!
Teaching on Sat morning, doing a fill for a club I really hate working at but can't turn down the money and the peeps are great :)
LOL you're more optimisitic than I am leesa! ROFL. Unfortunately it will be a while before I am running again - I have to build all the muscles around hip, back, pelvis etc. We have to make sure everything is really supported so my discs don't slip again.
It is great having the extra support here!
You're right CQ - my trainer works gym floor shifts at THREE gyms plus does PT sessions on top of that AND teaches a boxing class once a week PLUS he also does admin stuff for the gym. he works 12 hours days most days poor boy.
