Finger abscess

I think I have an abscess in my finger. I am a nail biter and got some swelling around the nail bed the other day. I thought I had just annoyed it too much and it was just a bit of inflammation, and then thought it was going down a bit. Fast forward five days and it is still really swollen, but now also sore and hot. I did consider going to the after hours doctor but my body temperature is fine so I figure it can wait at least until tomorrow. Anyway I guess I am just venting although any advice is also welcome. LOL.

I use to get this a lot when I would bite my nails and the skin around them...
Usually got like this though if it was aggravated by knocking it, or getting something in it and getting a reaction (i'm allergic to something in detergents/soap and band-aids)
Hope it gets better soon though

how large is it? Pop a cover over it (I'd suggest something non-stick like Telfa then a small crepe bandage both of which are available at any good chemist) incase it pops and also to prevent further infection. Not much you can do otherwise besides seeing the doc.

Thanks guys. I saw my dr this morning. She didn't need to pop it for me but am on ABs now plus warm hand baths and a honey poultice. I love my dr!
