Gee whiz, that sounds bad! I rarely take painkillers.I usually try heat packs and hot baths if I'm in any pain. I wouldn't recommend a bath for you though. DH swears by a shower if he has a headache - he says the running water is very soothing.

I'd be really careful about who you see if you've heard a crack. It sounds like you've definitely done something and if you're in pain the surrounding muscles may have started to seize up to protect the area and that's why it's so sore. I love my chiro, but they can't help muscle pain and the manipulation may in fact make it worse so I'd wait until it settles a bit. What about a physio? Or your gp may be able to suggest someone else. We have a 'pain man' who does accupuncture in our area and he's very popular, though I've never been.

I really feel for you. Hope it improves soon.

Do you have acess to an after-hours GP clinic? In SA we have GP Plus which you can go to or you could call that HelathConnect number that the gov has been advertising on TV lately. They give you a nurse to talk to over the phone. Its a Federal govt scheme so the number should be available from 12456. They would be able to suggest pain mgt and what to do next for you.

Hope you get some relief - I would seek out an emerg appointment at a good physio tomorrow.
