Quite a few times Ive thought about this and wondered.
We hear how we should put our emergency contact under I.C.E in your phone, so should we be in an accident they can find your emergency contact.
BUT how does that work when alot of people have pin codes and locks on their phones?
Its a great idea i think but feel it may not work as well as it could due to locks on phones.
What are your thoughts?

*Apparently* emergency services have a way to over ride your code, but I dunno how true that is. Interesting question and I've wondered the same thing. Only recently I put a code on mine to stop my kids prank people and playing games!

DH is a paramedic in nsw, and he doesn't have any clue how to access people's phones unless it's the way I described and they have ICE contacts setup. I can't speak for police or firies or other states though.

Yes I thought it was to good to be true, hence why I said *apparently*, my guess it was just one of those viral rumours that spread like wildfire on Facebook
It would be handy if the iPhone had something similar to the Samsung!

No, they don't have magic ways of hacking phones. They are just regular people! Imagine if all the emergency services personnel knew how to break into every phone or tablet out there. There'd be an outcry.
How come more people don't know about that emergency call thing on the samsung? I didn't know. That's cool.

This is one of the reasons there is no pin on my phone, and never will be.
My kids *need* access to my phone. DD1 knows how to call people - she knows 000 and she knows that she can press anyone on the favourites (a big yellow star on the iPhone phone menu) and get help there. As a single parent, I need to know that if I don't wake up one morning, the girls will be able to call someone.

There's an emergency ID app for iPhone that enables you to enter relevant information then you take a screen shot of the page & save that photo as your lock screen background so even if your phone is locked the details can be seen whenever the screen is activated. You could do the same by taking a screen shot of the contact details of the person who is your emergency person

For samsung galaxy's, you can put your ICE contacts into the emergency contact group, and then when the screen is locked, if you hit "emergency call" it has a button with a person and an alarm light which shows your emergency contacts when you press it. You can only call those numbers if there are any, or dial emergency numbers, but no others.
DD has learnt to call DH from my phone and me from DHs phone using thisshe knows she will talk to us too, and that she's not diallinga random number!

I have a galaxy 3 and you can add numbers to your emergency list. So when my phone is locked you press the emergency call button and along with 000 it has dh contact there to ring
...spock has also mastered how to ring daddy from my phone and she doesn't know the code

We have it. My kids know our passcodes. And if you tell Siri to call Ice (even with the passcode on) it works.

I use I.C.E. And I have a pincode. Hadn't thought about emergency services accessing but I do have Siri.
DD1 is 4 and she can put in the pin and call her dad. We're also teaching her about calling triple zero, there's a brilliant app that helps them learn exactly what to say.

To use ICE on an iphone just ensure it is a separate contact. So have your ice as their own person. For example my DH is mine so I have his name as a contact and ICE so that if anyone. Tries to call ICE through Siri or contacts it's easy to do so.

I've got a few different ICE numbers, and I save them as ICW Husband T** J**** so whoever's calling knows who they're ringing.
