It may not be the reason but both my parents would get a similar thing and it would just be on their necks and they found that it was from one of the chemicals/preservatives in red wine...might be in other foods as well.

Bath, I knew a couple of people at school who used to get this - was more from nerves/stress than embarassment eg when they had to get up and talk in front of others, sitting exams etc. I don't know any "cures" for you though cause I got the impression the more they knew it was happening the worse it became. If they were able to relax it would slowly go.

Thanks girls... naturally I've been Googling the issue and yes, some foods and chemicals seem to trigger it or make it worse... MSG is a common culprit it seems. I have been drinking a bit more red wine than usual I guess... just a glass with dinner a few times a week. I have been under extra stess lately with my health issues (thyroid and kidneys). It seems to happen mostly when i am talking to my doctors... I leave their surgeries and if i look in a mirror it's there. Doctors don't make me feel nervous at all... but I am disagreeing with some of them which makes me feel a bit antsy. My Endocrinologist is a real arrogant old b@stard and he just makes my hackles rise IYKWIM.

Anyhow there seems to be a few suggestions floating around on the 'net which i might try... this includes using haemerroid cream on my neck LOL! Oh goody... finally a use for that tube of Rectinol I was given by the nurses after I gave birth to my last child! I hate things going to waste! Hehe
