bwahahaha my DS was just asking me today why my feet are all messy and telling me I should go clean them. Maybe I should join the feral heel crusade. Do those pumice things hurt? Whats a good heel cream?

My feet are also disgusting. Probably a combination of the extra weight I carry around, too much white bread and too much time in sandals/thongs.

I just googled Milky Foot. Wow - what a interesting product. I would love to hear from anyone who has actually used this!!! Other than that - does anyone else know any good products to help fix up yucky feet?

I'm joining the gross foot club too. My feet are so terrible that the dry bits get stuck to the carpet and feel awful when I walk... I call them my velcro toes. Sometimes when I sleep the dryness of my feet rub against my legs and it can hurt!
Gonna go have a squiz at this milky foot thingy. Sounds interesting.

Hi Shanti what a great thing to do in 2010! I had a similar goal a few years ago but it wasn't just for my heals it was for my hands and arms too as I did have really bad eczema on them. Anyway moral of the story is that I went to a skin specialist and he told me to put any medicated cream on 1st (if you are using any) than smother on moisturiser to my hands and feet really thick and than put wet gloves or socks on first followed by a dry pair and the cream will work up to 40% better! He said to do this at night and than if you wake up during the night or in the morning you can take it off and than apply fresh moisturiser. I tell you what he was right because it didn't take long at all for my heals to start looking great and after one night my hands were looking heaps better too... I used to also do this with bandages for any other problem area, ie my arms or elbows

I also have disguisting heels but not being much of a girly girl I have no idea how to fix them.
So how do I get rid of these disguisting cracked heels - help me ladies, please.

Mine are really disgusting, well they were until I found the best thing ever a few weeks ago, it's called Scholl rough skin remover, OMG it's a miracle, it's got fruit acids and pumice in it and it took every itty bit of yucky dry skin off my feet in one single go, it's amazing stuff. You just rub it on dry feet and rinse it.. As you're rubbing the stuff it kind of thickens and you can see that it's the skin coming off your feet. It's under $5 at the pharmacy.

I use the Ped Egg, and it's awesome. use it for a few days in a row & all the nasty crasked rough bits are gone, and replaced with smooth skin! I'm far too lazy to use moisturisers, but I have them. But the ped egg really is brilliant.

It looks like a cheese grater... but unless you actually had wounds where your feet crack, it doesn't hurt. If you do - you might try a pumice block in the shower for a week first to get the worse of it down gently.

Ok girls... I was reading an article in a health magazine about the prevelance of bad heels. When I can find the article online I will post but essentially it said that it stems from two sources: moisture removal and bacteria. Weight is surprizingly not always the cause. A study has found that women who wear cork soles like Birkenstocks make up a very large proportion of sufferers... and also women who wear thongs. Thongs seemingly harbour higher levels of bacteria... especially Havianas for some reason. Women who avoided these types went on to make fast recovery.

Now with the cork shoes it seems as if the cork is actually drawing moisture out of the skin... leading to drying and cracking. I have worn Birkenstocks but they were the clog style ones and I wore them with socks. My heels have never cracked. I also rarely wear thongs... only briefly at home in summer to hang the clothes out... infact I borrow my DD's as I don't own any.

So girls... hands up if you wear thongs/cork shoes and have this problem?

The article says the best type of shoe in summer is one with a leather sole.

They don't have to be expensive... Payless sell decent leather sandals for about the same price as a pair of Haviananas.

Anyhow that's my tip... creams don't do much if you are going to keep wearing the thongs/cork... start wearing leather.

Entreat, does the ped egg come with instructions? I have never had a pedicure before so don't know how to 'treat' my feet with graters, LOL!
Thanks for that tip too, Sue - under $5 sounds perfect for me!
I wear Havianas a lot, Bath. My heels aren't cracked, but my feet are very dry - always. Interesting that leather sandals aren't as bad. I just figured it was open shoes that made my feet dry, not specifically thongs. Hmmm.

I've never had problems with my heels until recently.

I would always wear closed shoes for work - I would wear sockette thingies with court shoes in Summer - my feet were always covered. I own sandals, but just find that as I have narrow feet they are always slightly loose and I get blisters all too easily.

Spend a year on maternity leave in bare feet... icky heels!

No cracks yet, but I have chronically dry skin so I figure it's only a matter of time. I'm hoping that returning to work and having my feet always covered again will at least stop it getting worse - just looking for suggestions on what to use to FIX them... Pumice is doing nothing, I think I need to look into some sort of cream.

I bought this thing from the pharmacy called "milky foot" which is this weird pair of booties that you wear for an hour, then rinse off your feet. About 5-10 days later all the cracked, dry skin falls off. It actually works! Only I bought it in Brissie (brookside pharmacy) and don't know where to buy them down here.
I am SO going to brookside this week to get some! I can post some to you if you like!

Bathsheba...i must say i agree with that article you have read....working in a corp environment...wearing stilletos all day....all week, even walking to the train station in them did not do this to my feet. Since being a SAHM ive seen my feet become a resembelance of sand paper...and i totatlly agree with the thong theory. Thongs are the worst things for your feet (as much as us aussies love them ). I could never figure out why my feet looked and felt so bad - even after pedi's every few weeks...the bacteria theory is intersting too...
The sock method worked for me Shanti....i was like a lil ole lady, bathing my feet in oil, then popping my white socks on and tucking into bed........but as soon as i went back to wearing my crocs around the hosue, those damn flaky dry heels came back......
If i could afford time as well as money in getting a paraffin pedicure every second day i would...my feet feel like my 7 months old feet for DAYSSSSSSSSSSSSS........

Wow!!! My heels are looking REALLY good lately!!! I've just been using one of those black thingys in the shape of a racquet... anyone know what they are called? its like a nail file but for your feet... its unbelievable and waaaay better than the pumicestone!
I then put my cream on my feet and my socks (even tho its so hot lately!!).....
I scrub my feet while in the shower. I can't believe how great they look in a matter of a week!!!!

I am now trying to get rid of the cracks in my feet , that's gross.... any ideas for cracks ladies??? they are a bit harder to get rid of.....

And yes i am a HUGE thong wearer... haviana's here too....thats interesting Bath about the bacteria....

I could have said yes to this about 3 weeks ago.... but I finally bought some Dermal Therapy Heel Balm, only because it came with a bonus gift it was about $14, and put it on twice a day, mine were hurting like I had a splinter in there (I didn't realise it was just the crack were so deep

But this stuff was damn amazing and my heels are completely smooth, I never thought they could look this good!! Now I jsut use it every few days, any other days I use Body Shop Cranberry Body Butter (yummo!!)

So I would definitely go a really good recovery cream first then just moisutrise once they have repaired.
