Exclamation Ah - This is doing my head in~

    Hey girls,
This is all pretty embarrassing and alot of it is TMI~ But you girls are lovely so I don't mind sharing hehe...

Anyways, I've been having some bladder problems of late, I've ALWAYS been a frequent urinater (i'm worst then my nan, lol) But since i have been back at work and a few times before hand) I've found that when i need to go, I NEED TO GO, otherwise some leaks out! Which is highly embarrasing! A 22yo incontenient women! NOT COOL. But anyway I went to the doctor the other morning, and she is doing Blood test, Urine test and Ultrasounds, Ultrasound is this comming thursday... Then will go back to see dr afterwards.

We did a ward test, which showed up nothing, so don't think it is a UTI; i've had one of them before and this is totally different... Its like i have a drink then i need to go to the toilet and once i've been 4mins later i have to go again for this little dribble to come out... Frustrating!

Have any of you experiances this? What was it? How is it treated?
(by the way I am still doing my pelvic excersies do them every day have since i was preg with iz.)
I feel SO OLD~ Im only 22 this is really horrid~

Another question i would like to ask is...
Whist having sex *this one been going on for a couple of months* When I am sitting on top, i get this deep pain on the lower right side of my abdomen. Its quite painful and makes me kinda take a deep breath and gasp alitte. To which we change positions... But sometimes even just the deep thrusting is painful (i did warn this was going to be TMI)

Does anyone know what that could be, I have done my own research on the internet! And i don't like what i read, I'm just scaring my self... Will bring the pain during intercourse up with my doctor next week. Just wanted to know if you girls new anything?

Sorry this is long... Thanks in advance...

Cassie, re the incontinence, my 10 yo DD was suffering a bit of dribbling so we got a referral to the incontinence nurses and I discovered due to the line of questioning that she took that there can be lots of different reasons, anything from the message from the bladder not getting to the brain, or a habit of holding the wee in so tightly all the time that it's impossible to hold any harder when you really do need to go, kwim? She was given exercises involving learning to tap her bladder to work out when she really needed to go to the toilet, to retrain her body to feel and respond to the correct sensations. So it could be any number of things and I'm pretty sure that a good incontinence nurse or physio will be able to help you, no matter what the problem is. Oh and the other thing is, you might feel like the only 22 yo in the planet with this problem but it's pretty common. No one ever talks about it though.

Cassie, re the pain, it could be from something as simple as where your cervix is sitting, or it might be something like an ovarian cyst (that often go away by themselves but need to be monitored). If I were you, I'd be seeing my GP about it BEFORE your bladder ultrasound because I'm betting the Dr will order another ultrasound to check the rest of your pelvic organs. Better (and less expensive) to get it all over and done with in one ultrasound appt, kwim?

Hey girls, I had my u/s - which showed up no problems thankfully! So doctor is referring me to hosp re- incontence... Blood/urine test didn't show up any infectious which is good... But doesnt let me know whats going on...

But blood test did show up something very worrying to my doc - My calcium is very low. I had to fill in this questionaire to extimate my calcium RDI which was quite low, So started on Calcium tablets and have to monitor my dairy intake more carefully and make a concious note to eat/drink more... Which i will, I know calcium is very important... And also my weight is too low as well. Which she would like me to see a dietician about!

But that part i dont get becuase i DO eat, but then again not always healthy so will definitly be trying to up that ...

Was quite a depressing dr visit...

    Hi Cassie,

I am so sorry you are having to deal with this right now. The incontinence issue most likely is unrelated to the low calcium / low weight you have. Have you had your thyroid checked? Some women are naturally thin. Before I had treatment for my AML, I was extremely underweight (def the opposite now tho lol), I was training quite a bit though but I ate a LOT, I ate constantly and I ate bad food but struggled to put weight on. There wasnt anything wrong with me (this wasnt what led to my AML or a symptom of it), it was just my own natural metabolism.

In regards to your calcium levels, it would be interesting to know if you have low vit d and low potassium. The reason why is that you need vit d for your body to absorb calcium. Certain drinks like coke will actually decrease your absorption of calcium and can decrease your Vit D level. So if you are drinking coke (I am a very bad addict of it unfortunately), I would avoid it if possible because it is REALLY bad for people who have low calcium. Having extra calcium to counteract this does not work because if you dont have the VitD to help the calcium be absorbed then you will just excrete the rest (best way I can explain it after nightshift lol).

The incontinence nurses are great, they will most likely get you to keep a diary of how much fluid you are having, when you first feel the urge to go and when you actually decide to go. The other thing they will definately do is to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles as this is one of the major causes of incontinence in women. You will find that if you try to hang on, you may have incontinence issues because you will end up still have a residual amount of urine still in your bladder even though you make think you emptied it, in reality you may have 300mls still left there, so the next time you need to go you will have an extra 300mls dying to get out.

Let us know how you get on and I am sorry your doctors appointment was so bad. I wish it was a more positive experience but hopefully the dietician that you see will be absolutely lovely and get you on the right track along with support from the nurses that you are seeing.

So you know its not uncommon for young women to have this issue, so dont think you are too young or too old to have this issue. Take care and I will be thinking of you

Cass, try not to be disappointed, really your appt was the start of being able to do something positive about your health and wellbeing. See it as a starting point, not a bad report card!

Re the dietician - they are actually pretty helpful people and it's usually about tweaking a couple of things - ie 'adding' some things in to your usual daily habits, one or two at a time, so you get there in the long run. Probably really easy things like putting some cheese on your toast or having an extra scoop of icecream - too easy, really. Chin up, I'm sure you'll start feeling better once you go along to your appts and if you're feeling down about it, talk to them about it while you're there. They have plenty of experience and will know what to say to help you feel more positive. You're doing a great job just by taking the first step and talking to your dr about it!
