J, I'd still be wary about taking them. I also have haemochromatosis and at one stage I took vitamins that didn't have iron in them and my levels still when through the roof. I think the other vitamins, particularly vitamin c, help you absorb iron from food, so they are not a good idea.

The only supplement I took while TTC and during pg was folate (which you can get on its own and its way cheaper). That's really all you need.

Just a note, my friend who is a natropath has said that iron combined into a multi-vitamin is no good as it binds with the other ingredients and essentially renders them useless... something to do with the difference between them and their purpose, i'm not sure cos she started to get all technical about it... but just a thought

Sorry to hijack your thread a bit Kate, but I was hoping someone could remind me about the recommended intake for folate? Everywhere I've googled is telling me something different and my fuzzy brain isn't coping LOL.

MR - you mentioned you just took folate too? I'm taking elevit at the moment, but the iron is messing with my system really badly. I think its probably making me feel worse on top of morning sickness already. Blerk.

    TIA
