    Smoking and coughing questions...

My DD's dad smokes. He never smokes inside and doesn't smoke around DD when she is there, so she isn't getting second hand smoke, but she ALWAYS comes home from his place with an irritating cough.

What I'm trying to find out is that if he smokes, and quite obviously with a smoker you can smell them a mile away, is it possible that even the smell on their clothes etc can be breathed in by others causeing the coughing and sore throat??

Its just so frustrating when she comes home coughing all the time after being there and then I have to deal with it when she cant sleep cause she is coughing all night.

Any facts or knowledge would be appreciated

Yep... the smell on their clothes can certainly cause coughing, sore throat etc... there are still trace amounts of nicotine, tar etc in her clothes... any of the chemicals used can cause those problems.
My youngest brother gets the same way when he is exposed to cigarette smoke... I am an ex smoker, and I get annoyed with the smell on my clothes as it is so strong... it eventually gives me a headache.

If you can smell something then it's your nose detecting a chemical in the air. i agree... even the smell can be an irritant.

all of the above is true, but there could be something else causing these symptoms.
sounds like an allergy of some description, does he have a cat or dog?
i dont know how old she is, but is there a chance she could be athsmatic? i dont mean to worry you, my neice had same probs and her mum was always taking her to doctor and thet kept giving her antibiotics until her mother put her foot down, went to another doctor who diagnosed mild asthma, and hayfever, gave her a puffer and an antihistamine, she was fine.
best bet to see a doc, if you havent already.
