cold running water the best, but given water restrictions, a tub of cold water or an icepack? It can take a while to take the sting out. OUCH, time for new mits i think!
My oven mits have a hole in them, the seam is coming apart. I discovered this tonight them I grabbed the oven tray with my exposed thumb. I now have a blister and a very, very painful fingerprint area. I put my thumb under water, then onto a frozen meal. Happened an hour and a half ago and I still can't bear to have my thumb off the ice for more than 3 seconds.
I now have my thumb inside a tomato after googling for ideas. It's not working. Help please, how do I stop the pain?

your supposed to have burns under cold running water for 20mins, thats what the hospital told me last month anyway.
other than that theres nothing i know of to help, maybe some ice cold bonjela to numb it?
When I do the same I carry around a cup of water for a few hours with my finger in it. eventually it starts to feel better.
There is also a cream called Burnaid which could help.
Aloe Vera gel or better if you have an aloe vera plant cut off a leaf and rub the juice straight from the plant.
Oooh the Aloe Vera is helping....
Bugger... only just.![]()
Burn first aid as told to me by an ambulance officer when Caleb was scalded:
Don't put ice on burns, it can make them worse as you can get a mild form of frostbite on the burn. Cold running water for 15 - 20mins then wrap the burn in gladwrap and then wrap a cold damp face washer over it.
The gladwrap prevents the movement of the air from creating more pain to the burnt skin and change cold wet facewashers as they warm up to body temperature.
A cream that contains silver nitrate will help it to heal super fast. Look for one called silversol or something similar.
sounds painful!
If the burn's still hurting today, or is bigger than the size of a 20c piece, go to your doctorYou don't want it getting infected

Well, last night I beared my fear of being outside at night and sat at the back tap with my finger running under water. That tap connects to our tank. Then I wrapped it in glad wrap and a wet face washer. I ended up going to bed with the thumb, in glad wrap, in a face washer, sitting inside a sippy cup to hold it all together.
Seems ok this morning. Have swapped that for a bandaid. You can see where the wipe touched my finger, the blister is a nice line across my thumb. A bit ouchies to the touch, but not too bad.
And the oven mit was binned!
I am forever burning myself on the oven so I got some of those silicon gloves - they are a good investment!
The last time I got a nasty burn from my oven I kept putting those frozen icy pole stick things on it - the ones that are in the plastic tubes. It was really nasty and I had a heap of pain from it so much so I had to have the tubes on it for many hours (one after another as each one stopped easing the pain - lucky we had lots in the freezer). My usual burn cream (Butesin Picrate) didn't help like it usually does. It looked like it would blister but it didn't & I think it was because of holding one tube after another for hours. It was the quickest I've ever seen a burn heal.
aloe vera!!! You can get it in a gel or a spray, its the BEST stuff for any burn. I lived overseas for quite sometime and experienced serious frost bite (its still a burn). I was told I would not regain the feeling I had in my hands and feet. I used aloe (from the plant and also a spray) and I have full feeling in both hands and feet. Its brilliant stuff and you can also pick up a plant from your local k-mart even for a pretty cheap price or go to your local chemist and you can pick up the aloe. Make sure though that it is at least 98% aloe vera, there are a few aloe products out there that contain other stuff which you dont want. The one I use for summer burns and kitchen burns is the one in a blue bottle, I think its queensland plantation or something which you can get from your local pharamacy![]()
