    Tonsillitis is awful!!!

Day 3 of tonsillitis and I am over it!!!!!

I am sick and tired of every time I swallow it freakin hurts so bad

I went to the fruit and vege shop earlier and on our way home picked up a block of chocolate and even though it hurts to swallow it is making me feel a bit happier!!

I also picked up some paddle pops as the cold ice cream will help, right?

Aahhhh p*ss off tonsilitis!!! I'm worried the girls will get it from me

Not bothering to see gp as we will have to wait up to an hr in the waiting room to then be seen for 5mins if that and for them to say yep it's that and do I want AB's even tho chances are its viral.

    Ouch
Though I'm sure if it's tonsilitis then it's bacterial, hope you feel better soon

I get tonsilitis at least 3 times a year. I always have a bulk pack of antis in the cupboard that my Dr updates and I just take them straight away. Always gone in 2 days. Once I didn't I ended up in hospital with acute case and I was very crook.
Hope you feel better soon xx

From my reading, there is bacterial or viral tonsilitis? More common is the viral types? What I read anyway.

Yeah I just don't want AB's because they drag my body down more and if it's viral case then no point taking them.

I'm so sick of being run down with illness this whole winter its really getting me down.

Last week after spending the night worried about DD who had a very high temp DH ended up having to rush me to the hospital because I had a serve case of tonsillitis that came on very quickly, the night before I was fine and the following morning I couldn't talk or swallow and had the tiniest gap at the back of my throat, even my uvula was 4 times it's usual size.

I get it a lot but this was crazy!! I would see the dr, I know it's a pain but it can get worse and you don't want that also I always find day 3-4 the worst for pain but that's when taking AB's.

Thanks TMS. I woke this morning feeling really crook and no improvement since sat morning but now it's the afternoon I am slowly noticing an improvement in my throat and it's not as sore as yesterday so I must be on the mend.
I feel super tired but no temps and I can breathe easier today!! Yesterday my throat was pretty closed up it was scary Dh says he can hardly see down there even when I'm not ill.
Yes I'm stubborn with AB's but I think they are over used a bit too much.

I totally agree AB's are over used and I'm very stubborn with going to the dr but I guess sometimes they are needed or we can end up very sick, good to hear your feeling better though.

Don't know if you can take aspirin but gargling some while at the hospital helped with the pain as I couldn't swallow. I swear by a warm drink with lemon and good active manuka honey 99% of the time though and gargling warm salty water.

if it keeps recurring (and you have had a history of glandular fever in the past) it could be a sign of bacterial tonsilitis (the little bumps and pockets from glandular fever are a fave hiding place for the bacteria!). basically i was told that if you get it more than 3 times a year then to get it checked out...in my case it was every 2-3 weeks so a no brainer lol.

hope that you get better soon xx

I have a history of glandular fever and have had tonsilitis before but never this bad.

    Massive hugs.
    It is awful.

I found pumpkin soup awesome when I had it and I would add lots of sea salt. The saltiness and heat helped my throat.

Hope you are better soon x

I decided to visit the chemist instead of the dr's and picked up olive leaf extract that I had 2 years ago.
I think I will take this daily now to boost my immune system!!! It badly needs a boost.

I have started feeling better this arvo after taking it, it doesn't hurt as much when I swallow. Still sore but not really really painful. So no AB's for me.

    Thanks everyone.

DH's chicken and corn soup he made me has helped too!!

Shanti: I used to get chronic tonsillitis. And still get them every now and again. My treatments are - gargle with salt water and I keep drinking honey & lemon. And lately Manuka honey. That seems to do it for me. Hope u feel better soon.

    Thanks Veus

I have been having ginger & honey teas the last 3 days but not today as I was over it!! It wasn't helping!
Think I need to get some Manuka as I have heard great things, it's so expensive!! But probably lasts a while?
I was eating honey from the jar 2 days ago in desperation to get better!!!!

I do a 'shortcut', I dilute some honey with a wee bit of water and keep it in a jar for the day. And if I'm bothered I squeeze lemon in another jar. So all I need to do is boil water & add bits from those two to make my drink. ;-) if anything it soothes the throat a bit.
