    14 m.o. tantrums?

DS has recently started to "chuck a wobbly" whenever he doesn't get his own way (eg. I won't let him climb on the window-sill or hit me). I put him on the floor (after lifting him off me or the window-sill) & he screams. Sometimes I can distract him & he gets over it pretty quickly, but yesterday he just screamed and screamed (maybe 15 minutes) until I took him outside to distract him.

How do you gently deal with tantrums??

Distractions are definitely the way to go. Like you, sometimes I take my DS2 (15 months) outside or I say "Where's the dog? Let's go looking for the dog!", that's usually enough to distract him and he focuses instead on the dog LOL. Anything like that is great for avoiding a big screaming match and a battle

I wish I had some great advice for you....just wanted you to know that you aren't alone!
Charlotte is having these same tantys at the moment. I tend to remove her from whatever it is she is trying to do, say no, dont yell/hit/climb etc, try and distract her, and if she persists in screaming I just ignore her.
She stops after realising I am not listening

Dont know if that is considered gentle or not?

Anyway, I hope someone has some answers for you... Not fun at all!

That's pretty similar to what I've been doing - but I just feel mean!

It's not mean! I do it too if all else fails, he stops carrying on within seconds once I've left the room. No audience is no fun!

Oh yeah tanties have started here in the last week. Olivia's favourite is to sit down, yell and refuse to move. We have just been trying the same things - distracting her and ignoring her for a bit. It is weird how all of a sudden she went from a curious little angel to a bossy toddler!

the change is sudden! The first one she had she actually stomped her foot and flung everything off the coffee table. I couldnt help but laugh it was so sudden!

Yep, DS chucks wobblies too and I pretty much do the same thing as you guys - our number one distraction tactic is the fish tank LOL! Even if he's been going for 15 mins, that's a sure fire way to calm him down.

This is all new to me cause DD didn't really chuck tantrums, and certainly not at this age! I think we're in for some doozies with this little fella
