    almost one and no teeth

My son is almost nine months he has no teeth! none! he still finds away to eat grownup food but im starting to have dreams that hes one and still has no teeth. is it a problem when they dont get teeth untill later, when did your babys get teeth?

Also as some one mentioned before that theyre child had a temper, mine is in that stage as well and although he is understanding the word (no!) some times he choses to ingnor me, and how in the world do you get through the tempertantrums? i dont want my baby to be one that is always in truble and i try to encorage him when he does somthing good or good for his moble skills, but it seems like he is in truble most of the time! i find my self getting fustrated more offten, i guess im just wondering how most of you get through this stage and how you handled these situations?

    Hi Tessa,

Don't worry too much about the teeth. William is nearly one and he only has one tooth so far. His father was also a late teether apparently but it is quite within the range of normal. Teething later doesn't cause any problems really but if you are concerned, have a chat to your doctor.

As you say, it doesn't stop them eating a wide range of food. My son is like that too even though he has no visible teeth. The gums are very firm and good for chewing (within reason). I still mash up his food but he happily eats crackers, sandwiches, pieces of cheese ... you name it.

Re the tantrums ... babies of that age, while they can start to learn what "no" means don't really understand enough to be throwing tantrums as tantrums are traditionally understood. They aren't an expression of a personality trait as such.

I know it is difficult when they start getting into everything and I remember well what it was like to have a baby yelling and getting frustrated with himself because he couldn't do what he wanted to do. We used to go for lots of walks outside to defuse things ... helpful for both of us. He also enjoyed being given household objects that he could manipulate and learn to push or pull around - things like a plastic laundry basket, plastic containers, etc. He loves watching what I'm doing and really just wants to feel that he is participating I think.

Good luck. It is a busy time, that's for sure. Hope our boys get some teeth in soon.

Matilda got her first tooth at 13 months. She's almost 3 and still waiting for her 2 yr molars. I've taken her to the dentist who said everything is good, she's just a slow teether. HTH!! I only took her to the dentist a few weeks ago.

Shelby didn't get her first tooth until 1ish. It seemed to bother an awful lot of people (especially those we didn't know) The best thing about late teethers is you can distract them through the pain and "miserable" stage without having to use medications etc.

DS#1 got his first tooth at 12 1/2 months and DS#2 got his first one last week at 13 months.

My theory was not to rush them, cause once they have teeth they can bite!!

My eldest got his first tooth at about 13/14 months (it was 8 years ago so my memory is a little vague ) but I remember the whole teething process being much easier. He had no problems teething, they all just appeared!

James got his first tooth at 11 months...it was one of the middle bottom teeth - oh and there were no teething issues either...they just came through quietly and without any fuss thankfully. He looked so funny. Most of his friends at school have started losing their teeth already and NONE of his are even remotely wobbly. Not that I'm worried!

Ok, I can beat you all !! My DD didn't get her first tooth until she was 18 months old! DS was around 4 months from memory but she was 18 months for sure, I'll never forget it! So many people asked me ALL the time about it. She ate all the normal foods without a problem. However I will say that when they did pop through (and rather quickly too!) her front 4 teeth (2 bottom 2 top) were brownish, called hyperplaysia. Dentist and doctor have no explanation for it, it has been tossed around that it could be due to them taking so darn long to come down or maybe it was an effect of some strong antibiotics I had while just pg with her (unbeknownst to me!). But they are fine, brown is fading and there are no problems. She didn't suffer at all not having teeth but her dummies and bottle teats did when she got her teeth! HTH!
