Hey Cherished, how's your little man going? Just stumbled across your thread. I'm attempting to transition my DS into his own bed, but more often than not I end up in bed with him, settling him as he gets quite upset

: wrong spelling!
phyrephly it's not going too great actually..... :/ The first week was great! He was sleeping really well and he did what I would consider a couple sleep throughs (which never happened prior to being in the toddler bed). Other nights in that first week or so I only went down to him early in the night and was able to lay him back down and then he'd come into our bed early in the morning say between 4:40 and 6ish which was fine. But he has bad teething for a week and in that time he went back onto the boob day and night and was generally unsettled so had heaps of wake ups. Now I jut think he's confused to be honest? Last night he woke up 4 times! I'm a wreck as the every night over the last week has been much the same. I always end up bringing him down to our bed (which again I don't mind) but I want that to be early in the morning not during the night after several wakes ups. Honestly the getting up and down is sooooo hard, I definitely did it the easy way co-sleeping, I don't know how mums get up all through the night, especially with a newborn! I'm thinking that he probably always woke that many times when I was in bed with him but he'd probably just snuggle up and go straight back to sleep without waking me crying iykwm. Anyway the situation sucks and is really getting me down
I can totally relate Cherished I hope it passes for us both soon. In the meantime I hope we both get a break when we can. It's really hard, isnt it? ALl the night parenting then all the day parenting too. Never ends! Cosleeping saved my sanity I recokn. My DP isn't into it and has been in a separate bed and room since DS was born. I wonder how things would have been had we not co slept, I wonder if DP would have been supportive of co sleeping had he seen how hard it is getting up a million time in a night.... *sigh*
Would he find comfort in a cuddle toy? I say this is as DD2 was really into her boob and snuggle overnight (we co-slept on and off for the first 2 years) and I recently found that when she has her teddy (that she shows no particular affection for during the day...in fact it is generally shoved in the drawer) for some reason at night it brings her comfort and she will, when i hand it to her, roll over and cuddle into it for the night.
Cass I have to giggle a bit as I remember the all too often occurrence of seeing DS's teddy get thrown out of the bed when I've tried to use that instead of me lol. I've been wanting him to attach to it for aaaaages now but it's just not happening. He loves the teddy but it's just not replacing me.
phyrephly thanks hon, I too hope we can both get some rest. Ive been having a nap every day for a while now just so that I can get through the day. DH is super supportive thank goodness. We both co-slept until DS was 8 months in our bed. Since 9 months it's just been ds and I in ds's bed. I've loved co-sleeping so much though and I guess this is just the transition that needs to happen.
I just wanted to add that weaning is heartbreaking since he was on the boob so much during that week of teething I'm now having to cut him back again which is really hard (and no doubt confusing him again)
Update: My complaining the other day must have done something! Last night I only went down to him once... he had milk when I would normally have just lay him back down, but he wanted it so I gave it to him. Then I woke up in my bed at 6am WOOHOO so he only had one wake up AND slept the night in his bed YAY. Hope that happens again tonight (minus the milk part)
That's great news Cherished!! FX you get a repeat tonight
DS stayed with my mum last night to give me a solid sleep. The night before that he actually wasn't too bad, woke up a few times but didn't cry at all and wasn't awake for long. Mum said that for her he woke every 2 hours, but was able to resettle ok. She and my dad co slept with him - I'm so stoked they did that! DS has just gone down, DP is out at Soundwave until late so I hope I get a few hours to myself before bed!
