I was wondering how much your 3/4 year olds sleep. A while back I stopped making alex take a nap. He would sleep from like 3-6 and then not be sleepy until 10-11 and sleep until 8am. I was tired of not getting time off and wanted him to go to sleep early. Well since I started the no nap he falls to sleep really early. Yesterday he crashed on the sofa at 6pm. Today he was really fussy and tired so I put him down for a nap at 4pm and he hasn't woken up and probably will just sleep until tomorrow at around 7am.
Is it normal for a kid to sleep 12-14 hours from 6-7:30/8 Leo is always saying he is worried that there is something wrong with him for sleeping so much.
how much do your kids sleep and do you think I should get him checked out? Man do you ever stop worrying about your kids..LOL
My 3 1/2 yr old generally has a sleep at 11.30am for about an hr or hr & half. Then goes to bed about 7.00-7.30 until about 6am.. sometimes later.
We do have days where he goes without the day sleep.. like Mon/Tues when he goes to preschool.
If he misses his lunch time sleep (for whatever reason) there's no way I let him sleep in the afternoon.. he just wakes up WAY too cranky.. it's just not worth it. But after he's gone a few days without the day sleep he needs to catch up again. So we definitely still need a day sleep in this house (plus I love that both mine sleep at the same time through the day... ME time!!)
My little man stopped his day sleep at 3yrs 4mnths (right when I needed it with a newborn!). He is now 4yrs 8mnths & goes to bed between 7.00-7.30pm and is up in the morning between 7.00-8.00am.
How funny, I was actually thinking this the other day. A friend of mine said that her 3 1/2 year old still has a sleep in the afternoon for over 2 hours & that just blew me away. My first wasn't having a day sleep at all by that age so I just thought that was really strange. Turns out like everything else with babies & motherhood, the old saying rings true "every baby is different".
My 3 1/2 yo doesnt have a day sleep, generally she goes to bed at 7:30 and sleeps to between 5-5:30 am I personally dont think this is enough sleep, and she is just foul most afternoons. About once a week or once a fortnight she will have a day sleep and sleep for 2-3 hours. We are trying to get her to sleep in longer in the mornings, but to no avail at the moment.
My weirdo DD(4) sleeps only 10 maybe 11 hours overnight most nights! She has never slept alot. She goes down at 7.30pm every night, and wakes sometime between 6-8am...
i shouldn't have read this thread.... its actually depressing, but maybe thats because i'm pregnant and exhausted and very very grumpy and have a very very active 2.5 year old.
*crosses fingers that next child is a good sleeper*
My DD dropped her day sleep at about 2.5, maybe a bit before. She sleeps from 8pm-7.30am. If she is ill she'll often pick up the day-sleep again for a few days until she's well on the mend. After a very busy day she'll sometimes fall asleep in the car/on the sofa at about 6 and sleep right through but it's rare.
DD stopped her daytime sleep when DS came along, she was about 3.5yrs. The only reason she stopped her naps was because I was just too tired & busy concentrating on having 2 kids instead of one to put her to bed
She goes to bed at 7:30pm & is up anywhere from 7-9am.
I wouldnt worry about the long hours sleeping, DD has been sleeping 12-14 hours a night since she was 3 days old!!! I had MCHN's telling me it wasn't right as she'd be "starving" by the time she woke up, I went by what my mum told me... "never wake a sleeping baby" & I now have a very healthy 4.5yr old daughter.
Some kids just like to sleep!!!! I say enjoy it, we are some of the few incredibly lucky parents who have children who sleep through!
Your DS sounds very much like my DS1. ATM we are trying to decide whether to drop the daytime sleep completely and put up with a cranky boy in the evenings, but who goes to sleep by about 7. Or to keep getting him to have his nap, have a nice boy at night, but who won't sleep until about 10pm. Either wasy he is up between 6 and 7am. I think I am just going to have to put up with a monster in the evenings for a while... at least then DH and I have some time together. And DS2 has some quiet alone time with his parents.
Don't worry about your DS sleeping too much. My brother is 27 and he would still sleep 12 hours a night if he was allowed to. I say be thankful!
DD is 3.5 and I stopped 'making' her have a nap about 6 months ago, she just wasn't sleeping well at night.
I find she still needs a nap once or twice a week though, I guess I have a more 'go with the flow' way of handling of it. If she didn't get to sleep early the night before or was up early that monrning I'll get her to have a nap and then not have one the next day.
she goes to bed at 8pm and its up around 6.30-7am. When she does have a nap I try to make them less than 2hrs or I find she gets over slept and grumpy.
My DD 3.5years old dropped her arvo nap for a few months then when she started 3year old Kinder (one day a week for 2.5hrs only) she went back into a 2hour sleep in the arvo (about 3-5pm) ... and goes to bed at about 8.30pm wakes about 8am ... If she doesn't have an arvo sleep for whatever reason we put her to bed earlier that night !!
(her Dad gets home about 7.30pm or later 5nights a week so they have some time to spend together, as he leaves for work before she gets up in the morn)
