Mel, first of all hugs babe. I know how crappy it feels to have sleepless nights.
A few things occured to me which might be affecting miss m's sleep- have you had her checked out by a doctor? Maybe she has some sort of infection or something. DD has really bad ears for a while before I got them checked out and was sleeping terribly and when she was put on antibiotics and they cleared up, she slept better (not perfect, but better!). Could she be teething? DS is getting his big 2yr molars and we've had several up and down nights. Maybe try the brauers calm/sleep drops (whatever!) several times a night, not just the once. As in giver her some whenever she stirs and is awake enough to take some more. Burn relaxing oils in her room. Have some music/radio/noise in her room. Just quiet, but so it's not totally silent int here all night and it might help prevent her waking when she hears things outside her room? Or when she does wake would she listen to some CD stories or soemthing on headphones (it might help her concerntrate a bit and relax??). Have you thought about an allergy or sensitivity to foods?
That's it for now, lol. I know how desperate you can get. again. It totally sucks. I would take up the offer of some kids free time, even if you're just watching a movie on your own or sitting down to have a cup of tea or something, just relax for a bit without them at you all day. Wish I could help.
I was just going to add (the more you have to pick and choose from the better), sometimes if ours won't settle we give them a torch. We have wind up ones so we wind them up if they come out and send them back to bed with the torch. Is there something she can play with in bed? Where she can lie and be amused, and if we wakes up she can press a light show button or pick up the torch or something?
I've heard chiros and other such therapists can do good things too.
Mel i would honestly be getting her checked out by a dr to make sure there's no underlying health issue bothering her.
sleep deprivation sux you poor thing, hope it's better tonight
babe. DD is doing the same things atm. And like you am doing everything I can think of...
Maybe there was something in the water around then... got to all our little ones then
Does she still have a daytime nap? What would happen if you cut it out completely?
My DS was a horrible sleeper till we cut his nap out, never slept through the night, not once. With him, he would happily go down for his nap at 11am, sleep for a couple of hours but then not go to bed till after 10 at night and still wake up through the night.
So we tried cutting out his nap altogether and yes, we had to treat him with kid gloves from about 4.00pm because he was very tired by then and if he got upset then he would cry until he was asleep...but when we cut out the nap (and put him in a big boy's bed) he started sleeping through the night finally. He was about 18 months which I know is young but he was getting 2 hours more sleep per day if he didn't have a nap...so based on the maths, it was the best thing for him. It does make for a long day having a toddler of that age up all day but he would crash at 6pm, sometimes earlier, and sleep for 12 hours. In the end, that was far preferable to him getting less sleep and that sleep being interrupted sleep.
It was transitional though, he needed to get used to it so to start with he would still have a nap every second day, then every third day (and we'd put up with the bad night but that was okay because it wasn't EVERY night now) and then once a week he'd have a nap...until it phased itself out completely.
Maybe your DD is another one that just doesn't need as much sleep as the average bear? I did feel I was doing it the wrong way around because DH and I were the ones that cut his nap out, I thought he would have to drop his nap himself...even now I could probably get him to have a nap in the middle of the day, but like I said, simple maths won out.
Oh sweetness!! to you, that's all I can offer. I have no ideas I'm so sorry. I do know that sleep deprivation truly is a form of torture! I'm waiting for Elijah to hopefully one day see that too!
Well I definitely think it is something in the water. My DS 26 months, has been waking up every morning at about 2-3am and crawling into our bed.
My DH tries to pick him up and carry him to bed but he wakes up and screams go way daddy and will only go to sleep when I lay next to him and I have to make sure he is totally passed out before I leave or he will just end up in our bed again. We just can't have him in our bed anymore as DS2 usually is in our bed as we co-sleep with him as he gets a bit of an upset tummy.
Maybe DD is overtired and she finds it hard to get back to sleep? I know the more tired my DS is before bed the longer it takes to get him to sleep and he seems not to sleep so well.
Do you think DD could be getting more teeth or is uncomfortable with the rash and that is unsettling her.
Sorry that I haven't been able to help. Fingers crossed you can find something to help soothe your lil one. I will be sure to post if we find a breakthrough!
sorry to hear that!! My daughter sometimes has nights like that and it is really hard to cope with. Hugs to you and DH. I wonder if you know that you can give your bubba panadol as well as the neurofen. They are completely different drugs and work very differently and sometimes it works with my DH if I give her both. If your little princess has a sore bottom it may be that she is really sore and can't settle due to that. Our DD has had that with teething once. She has cut 6 teeth in 4 months so we have had a long few months.
mel - can you take her to the park and run her off her little legs in the afternoon so that by bedtime she is physically knackered as well as mentally worn out??
And maybe try daktozin for the nappy rash - it means hot water and detergent for the nappies but it really does kill off the rash!
