I think the other thing is positive reinforcement...

Making a big deal of complimenting them for using their manners...not just reminding them when they haven't...

"Lucy...it's so lovely when you say thankyou...good girl!"

I love a phrase I read in a social skills training book the other day...

"reward direction not just perfection!!!"
