csab - I have been checking my levels since I found out yesterday and the highest I've been is 7.3. Most have been under 6 so now I'm a bit confused as to how they determined that I have GD. Yes I am having another girl so yes we are the same lol. Yay for being on the home stretch as I don't know how much more my tummy can stretch lol. Frogglette is huge already and even though I've had 5 others in there she seems to be pushing the limits
Kristy - hope you got some answers this afternoon and that they were good ones.
Will let you guys know how I go on Thursday, take care
Hi Kim. Welcome.
The 7.3 alone is enough to confirm GD, even tho it's only been once.
What are your morning fasting levels like? That's the one I have trouble with, which is why my insulin keeps getting increased I'm now on 28 units!!!
I had total denial for the the first few weeks, I didn't think they had a clue. But now when I cheat I can see they were right. And for me with acceptance came better understanding.
I still say a big boohoo tho to GD! It sux. But I suppose there are worse things hay
Jak - I started off with 4unit lunch and dinner, then in the end I ended up with 6fasting, 6bf, 22lunch and 6dinner and what I was told since it ended up over 30units a day(well what i can remember, not sure what other hospitals do though) I had to be admitted the day before my surgery (c/s) they also had to put the insulin drip in 2hours prior to surgery. Bub then once delivered was taken to newborn care for observation but ended up in nicu 28mins after birth as her sugar levels had dropped too low, and needed insulin. She was in nicu for 4days, but also due to her needing to learn to suck as well, and needed to be tube fed until she learnt how to suck. Ohh just wanted to say that this is just my experience and it doesnt mean you will go through the same thing with your bub, they will more likely monitor bub for a few hours just to make sure bubs sugar levels are good though.
Kim - Yay on another girl. If you can keep your levels within normal range with diet, your doing a wonderful job. I too didnt believe them when they told me I had GD. Took a while to believe it tbh. Yet as I got further alone, my BSL's were getting more and more out of hand, harder to control. As you get further into the pgcy they said it can get harder to manage and it was for me. I was put on insulin at about 25wks after finding out at 23wks that I had GD, and the insulin had to get bumped up practically all the time. hugs
I think I completely agree with csab and Jaki - I've been in denial about accepting that I have GD and I've been trying to find all these 'possible' reasons that suggest that they got it wrong. My GTT test was 9.1 so I was way higher then what i should be. But since then I barely get a level over 6! But what Jaki said is so true, If I eat alot of the "naughty" foods then I will get a higher reading. So I'm slowly starting to come to terms with it all and accept that I can't do anything about it and as long as Im getting the lower readings then thats good.
Kim - We're both having girls! Congrats on your lil one! She's going to be here before you know it. The midwifes gave me some answers....but they couldnt give me all the answers that I wanted and it was simply because I was trying to get answers that said "you dont have to test anymore or we made a mistake you dont have GD". lol Wishful thinking....
Now its just a matter of playing the waiting game...At 36 weeks they will do all my measurements and decide at that point if they will induce me. So the lower I can keep my levels the less effect it will hopefully have on her.
Jaki - Can I ask out of curiosity what are your morning fasting levels? Would they let you go back to being diet controlled at all? Sorry if they are silly questions...Im still getting my head around it all
I have only been testing since Monday afternoon but my morning levels have been 6. So that still puts me in the right range. Lunch and dinner have been 5.5. I'm trying for a vbac with this birth but I think now I'll end up with another c/s as they can't induce me. I'm mightily peeved about this as I used to have high BP but this pregnancy took it back to normal so I was hoping everything would be ok. I mean if I have GD then I have it and I will cope (have 2 kids with type 1 anyway) but was hoping for a normal birth this time round.
Kristy - Congrats on your little princess as well. Looking at the time frame now is making me gulp lol as it could be as early as 8 more weeks (last one was an early c/s due to pre eclampsia). If they let me go to term I'll be surprised. I don't eat much naughty food at all with this bubs as she really doesn't like it lol. She has been very picky about my meals
csab - Chloe is a little cutie. Hope you are both doing ok?? How did Chloe do in nicu? I'm now getting very freaked out that Frogglette may have to spend time in there as well. Oh well will find out more tomorrow at the group session.
Jaki - All I need now is for my high BP to come back and then I can really have a whinge lol.
Is that 6 before breakfast hun? If so its actually quite over the 5.5. My Dr likes mine under 5. Then under 7 all day. Not sure if they all work off the same numbers tho. My Dr is a bit of a BSL Nazi. LOL
lol Jaki, the midwife I spoke to said under 8 is fine so I was thinking that I was doing well lol. I will find out more tomorrow but I was 4.6 for lunch today so yay
