    please help gestational diabetes question

Im 35 weeks pregnant and while at the GP yesterday he tested my blood sugar (although I do not have gestational diabetes) and the result was 8.0 mmol. I was expecting it to be a little high as in 30 minutes before the appointment I had eaten a bag of lollies (I know that's not what I should be eating) but I was a bit worried about that result. I rang the hospital and spoke to a midwife who said to get another blood sugar level tested in the next few days and see what that is, which I'm going to do but the more I read I'm starting to get worried.
I had the 2 hour glucose tolerance test at 28 weeks and those results were fine, I don't know the results exactly but the obstetrician said they were absolutely normal and not even close to being diabetic. I'm going back to the GP tomorrow but wondering what anyone who has experience with GD thinks? Does this sound like I might have gestational diabetes?
Really worried thanks for any advice

No, it sounds like you ate a bag of lollies just before! Did you let them know you'd eaten sweets beforehand? It seems weird that they'd test you knowing that. Have you been having any GD symptoms, or did they show any concern that you may have developed it? It is weird that you did the GTT and were fine but they tested you again!

Hopefully you can take the other teat and it'll be fine!

No it sounds like you had lollies! Dont worry to much, dunno why they would even test when you got the all clear in the glucose test. You need to test when you first wake up it should be under 5, or two hours after a meal then it should be under 8 I think, can't remember. If you are worried you should do the glucose test again just to be sure.

i agree with the others - just sounds normal for eating a big bag of lollies!

i'd have thought that 35 weeks would be pretty late for them to diagnose GD it doesn't hurt to test your BSL again but next time a better indicator would be 1-2 hours after eating & see what they're like if you've had a regular meal (i.e. sandwich for lunch) rather than something that would send most people's levels through the roof

Thanks for your replies that makes me feel better I was at the GP just to get a prescription (unrelated to pregnancy) and he commented on my swelling (which is quite bad) and checked my BP (which is normal) and then wanted to check my urine (which was also normal) and blood sugar although he knew I didn't have gestational diabetes. I did explain to him I had eaten lollies within half hour before coming to the doctor and he seemed a little concerned and said to let the hospital know.
I don't think I've had any symptoms of GD I hadn't even given it another thought since I passed the test at 28 weeks, I'm going to the toilet a lot but I guess that is normal for anyone at 35 weeks

Stop reading and stressing yourself out, I agree with the others that it was just the lollies.

Definately the lollies would have done it. When they originally tested you & it come back 'normal' that is all you need to worry about. I wouldn't bother getting re-tested.
