What monitoring did your GD baby have after birth and do you think it was warranted ie did their BSLs drop, were they lethargic, have trouble feeding etc?
Was the monitoring done while baby roomed with you? Or in SCN? How long after having bub did you go home and was this related to your GD?
DS6 had his BSL's check straight after birth and then every 2hrs after that for 12hrs then every 4hrs for the next 12hrs, his levels were fine. He did get a bit lethargic around the 10hrs after birth and we had to use some of my expressed BM in a syringe as he wouldn't wake long enough to attach. He was born at 36 +1 and we went home around 36hrs after birth. He stayed with me the whole time no SCN for him.
Blood sugar levels were checked after he was born and he was strongly encouraged to breastfeed or have expressed colostrum pretty quickly to get the levels up so he could stay with me. Otherwise he would of been taken to scn to be put on a drip to get those sugar levels up.
Then he was tested again every two hours for about three more times then his levels were fine and they just tested him the next day and because his levels and my levels were fine we went home!
I was supposed to have hourly monitoring but then my waters were broken and she had the clip my poor dd hated that thing she had a huge hematoma afterwards for a month. Her bsl's were taken straight away and for about 24 hours afterwards but were fine. She was in the scn but was mandatory with gd and insulin but she was with me most of the time, she did have jaundice too. We came home after 4 days, three days were in the scn.
I was on an insulin drip during labour. When DS was born they took BSLs I think hourly and he had to return 3 in a row of normal (which were the first three for him anyway). He was taken to special care for half an hour or so, but that was due to clicky breathing unrelated to the GD. We left on an early release programme before 36 hours old.
