OK, so it is my very best friends birthday (next week!) and I need something to make that is nice, sentimental and looks great... we are low on the cash flow and she is the one going OS...
She has said that I should just give her some cash towards a pair of shoes that she wants... apparently very expensive ones... but I feel thats a little lame.
We will be spending the afternoon together so even something special to do that is low cost...
Appreciate any ideas... I would rather it be more of an experience or something crafty!!!
OK Mel, I'm trying to brainstorm for you, but unfortunately I'm still suffering from baby-brain! What do you enjoy doing as far as crafts go? Do you sew, paint, scrapbook, quilt, bake, .....??? Or would you just like to give something new a try? Also, what are your friend's tastes/interests?
Off the top of my head, is there any chance you have enough pictures of the two of you and your families to make a small scrapbook for her, with stories of things you have done together, and the reasons you enjoy your friendship with her? That's always a lovely and meaningful (and relatively inexpensive!) gift.
How long have you been friends for? Is there anywhere in particular that is special to you both that you could take her for a picnic lunch to reminicse(sp?)
My good friends and I have had some great fun just wandering the shops. We stop for coffee, buy things for our families, talk about anything and everything, make each other try on ghastly outfits and laugh our heads off. She might just appreciate a nice, low-stress, afternoon out, talking, visiting, and laughing. And, you might notice something that she really likes, that is not too expensive, and you can surprise her with it at the end of the day.
Otherwise, if you do have a picture of the two of you, you could have it framed nicely, with a large, light coloured mat, and then write what ever you like on the mat - a good story of something the two of you did, things you appreciate about her, a few of your best memories...etc. Or simply write things like "best friends" and your names in stylized letters, with flowers and swirls and stuff like that to decorate it. (I can picture it, but can't describe what I mean too well - maybe visit a scrapbooking store for a good idea.)
