I have cut up our old Christmas tree with bolt cutters haha, harder than I thought and made a few small Christmas wreaths to decorate with tinsel and little decorations..... That might keep them busy for fifteen minutes.... Looking to add a few more to my list.....
Thanks for the cookie idea, for Santa.... Need to find some Christmas cutters tomorrow.....I"ll make some dough when DS sleeps later.....
if you print out a picture of Santa's face, have the kids glue cotton balls onto his beard, looks so cute when it's done.
We're doing this as our advent calendar, I found a picture that had numbered circles on his beard, so we add a new cotton ball every day until Christmas!
I saw another good idea today, handprint snowmen. Paint the canvas a nice bright colour, then you paint the kids fingers and just the top of their palm in white so they can make a handprint (I saw it on small canvas shapes, and made into a tree decoration). Each finger becomes a snowman, then all you need to do is draw on some top hats, a face, maybe a scarf and some buttons and your done. I haven't tried this one yet but it's on the list!
I got some cheap polystyrene shapes and both my lids loved painting them (my little guy is nearly two)
We wound some pipe cleaners together and then into a circle shape and stuck coloured pompoms on for little wreaths
christmas coloured playdough, or better yet air dry clay (which I wish I could find here but can't)

stainglass window decs by cutting out shapes in the middle of sturdy card then the kids paste strips of cellophane over the gap

might be a bit young for the 2 yr old but the 6yr old could push pins and sequins into polystyrine balls to make balls for the tree
cut out lots of green outline of hands to and use them to make a tree
hands can also be cut out in brown and become reindeer ears.
I just remembered another crafty activity I saw lately. Little christmas wreaths made from pipe cleaners and christmas coloured buttons. It will take a while for the kids to thread a pipe cleaner full of buttons! Apparently spotlight sells containers of red and green buttons really cheaply. If you would like the blog I found this on pm me and I'll send you the link, not sure if I'm allowed to post it here...
ooh we did the stained glass windows too. I put clear contact over a window I made from card, they stuck their cellophane to that and then when they were finished put another layer on.
I just bought DD a "showbag" from the market which has 4 tree decorations for her to make. they make heaps of little bags - PM if you want details. The bag cost $10.
You could also get the kids to make reindeer food. Last year we did oats with glitter in it for "magic power".

we did the Christmas Deco's today - we spent about an hour doing them. And she had a BALL! They came out really well too and are hanging on the tree So proud!
At the library the kids made a wreath out of a piece of green card (cut into donut shape) then used RED & GREEN patty pans and suck them around, green for the 'leaves' and red for berries.. then a little glitter in the red ones for some 'shine' look quite cute.
we just made a christmas tree which DD loved and actually looks pretty good!
Made a cone out of card, about 30 cm high. drew around DDs hand and cut out a load of hand prints out of different shades of green paper. stuck allover cone to make the fur tree. then using all sorts of stuff made decorations, wrappers of choc money DH and I ate glitter, ribbon, cut out shapes etc etc. the stuck a big star on top.
Another one we did the other day, got some paper plates and stuck stuff all over on both sides, to make big hanging decorations, which are going to go up all around her poppys hotel room when he comes up to stay over christmas!
making christmas cookies tomorrow, going to let her go crazy on a few with icing and sprinkles etc....im sure she will eat more of the sprinkles than get stuck on the cookies but hey...its christmas!
