I'm so excited, our local Uncle Pete's is having awesome sales at the moment, I managed to get some kids presents reduced from $8.99 to $0.99 !!!!! NICE! Plus a few things half priced for Z so now he is all sorted. Just need to do the adult & miss J now How is everyone else going with their shopping?
Leesa - I'm so sorry to hear about your mum Hoping you get lots of wonderful ideas to make this Christmas the most wonderful one ever
Sarah - I'm so impatient about shopping - but haven't done much, as we decided I wouldn't until we moved into our new house, just to save carrying things over & running the risk of people seeing things they shouldn't
We will definately be in 100% by next Saturday (a little over a week)... and then it begins
I have been scouring catalogues/prices though so its all a plan in my head.... just need to put it into action soon
To go along with the stick tree decoration DH made me last year, he's making me something new I saw in a shop a few weeks ago - a display hanging from the roof!
He's half done.... but isn't going to finish it until we move now... will post some pics when I have the completed project
Leesa - sorry to hear about your mum - make this Christmas a celebration and embrace the fact that you are together - don't grieve for what may not be next year. Enjoy the day. there will be time to grieve when the time comes - for now, embrace every day and make it memorable for the right reasons. hugs
Sarah - we have most of E's present (clothes) - still want to get her a clam for kicking around in when it's warm. will get that just before Christmas. have to buy for two of my bro's kids - nephew is getting a skateboarding helmet when his dad tells us which one to get - the 9 year old girl - i'm stumped! DH has already been given his present (fleetwood mac tix) - but i'll get him something small for under the tree. i'm waiting for him to ask what i want - i have NFI lol. i did tell him the tix were for christmas and his birthday (turns 45 next year, the old fart) - i'm happy to wait and get something combined for mine (i turn 30 gulp) when we're a little better off financially. as long as E has something, i'm happy!
E is giving everyone photo magnets for their fridges lol cheap, and easy to organise
Leesa I am sorry to hear about your mum! Might I suggest a really special present for her? Kikki K have a book with "Mother" on the cover and it is printed with pages for you to write stuff aboutyour mum and include phots as well. Things like "I didn't know then but do know...", "Favourites from your kitchen" and "My fondest memory of you is...". I did up a book like that for my mum for her birthday this year and she burst into tears, not knowing I felt that way about her. The book is about $20 from memory but it is a really priceless gift that is very personal.
On the present front I am doing really well - everyone else's kids are done but mine LOL! Mum wants a pepper grinder (easy!) and we are doing a KK for the "adult children" in DH's family, so I am impatient to find out who I "get". Ollie and Flynn will get usmmer PJs - they are running around in midriff tops at the moment - but as for pressies it is a hard one. Flynn wants a plane from santa and Ollie is too young to know what is going on but I still want to make a fuss. But I don't want to buy expensive plastic, which seems to make up most kids toys!
so lazy, haven't even STARTED on presents this yr... hmmm i have 4 nieces to buy for, 1 nephew and 4 brothers plus A.
Wont do adult pressies this yr as #2 is due, hoping to have the house started etc...
Not long at all now, best get lay-bying or grabbing bargains... ARGH!
I know i want to get A a smart trike and possibly some Wiggles/Hi-5 DVD's and that will be it for her!
Hope #2's not here b4 x-mas otherwise will have to do a quick dash to wrap some pressies, well atleast from her big sister.
Saw the cutest BIG SISTER hanging ornament in K-mart or target yesterday but didn't get it as she wont be a big sister yet... well i hope she wont... lol
how is eveyrone going? we started unpacking Christmas stuff on Saturday - and now have at least two benches ready to go with decos. the table is covered in stuff, and there is still more to unpack - another ummmmmm 2 150L tubs at least - plus the tree and train! oops!
it's looking awesome - been a bit creative and made levels on top of the bench so that different things show up and don't get lost
DD has only been able to get her hands on one thing (norty daddy gave it to her and let her chew it grrrrr) - but she is fascinated cos it plays music!
hi everyone tree went up about 1 month ago all the deco's are one except for balls. Been thinking and planing food just bought the cheesecakes and danish and crumbles they have had recently on sale and starting to stock cool drink up too have already bought some of the chocolate for stocking. we did yesterday pull out all kids gifts and count them up and see who was missing out and who not im stuck for dd who is 11 going on 15 not so much with the attitude just with her likes. I though maybe a cindy lauper dvd as she loves her and the bangles.
i also while separating gifts and checking what i had wrote a list for batteries to buy rechargeable for them.
was thinking prolly lots of pre made food this year i dunno.
So who has gone out looking at lights yet? We're going on Wednesday night, I was thinking Christms Eve but I want the munchkins to sleep well cos it's going to be a big day!
Our pressies are all done, just waiting on one to arrive from America for my brother, ordered it on Nov 23rd, so I'm a bit worried. I wrapped them all last night & felt a bit stingy cos cash flow isn't great at the moment, so Zander & I will be cooking up a storm & adding things to presents this week. Santa has done well but still needs one more thing for Miss J & he's finished.
I am soooo hanging out for my big piece (or three lol) of turkey. I have to say it's the absolute best part of Christmas! I'm also planning mocktails for the day YUUMMMO! I'm sure Zander will enjoy them with me too!
Pressies are all done, Xmas lights have been lookeed at twice so far, but we'll have to go again- ds is obsessed with them.
Now I just have to sort out the logistics. So far it looks like dinner Xmas Eve, b'fast Xmas Day, then lunch, then dinner, then lunch and dinner on Boxing Day. So much family, so little time I think it might be time to negotitate with the MIL- surely I don't need to see her twice on Xmas day????
But at least there is no cooking for me, apart fromt he b'fast bbq. I have been so slack this year- no handmade pressies, no baking...
All presents are wrapped - well except for the ones I picked up yesterday - will get to them later today.
Am baking some cookies and making fudge this afternoon for a friend as we are catching up tomorrow. Other baking & making will be done Tuesday & Wednesday as we are catching up with DPs grandmother and then friends on Christmas Eve.
DD is too young for lights and DP is not a fan but will go when DD is older and he is not so grinchy LOL.
We have to get a few more presents - just small things and things I might kill - ie a plant for my best friend... I have no green thumb so I find it is best to buy those things as close to the event as possible LOL
I have DD's presents still to wrap and something for TK's DD.
I'm making fudge, white christmas, shortbread and rocky road tomorrow ready to take them to Sydney. Not sure whether to wrap them up in cellophane tomorrow or wait until we get to Sydney (we're heading down on Wendesday).
We drove past christmas lights on our way home from MIL's on Saturday night, Sophie's eyes were wide open as she turned her head from side to side so she could see the lights on both sides of the street.
have been putting off wrapping presents until i could get some time when E would stay asleep and DH didn't need me to do other stuff. i think tonight might have to be it! put daddy on bubba duty, and everything will be wrapped
Christmas this year seems to have lost a lot of it's shine the past couple of weeks. four people that we are close to have either passed away themselves or lost a parent. most recently my Uncle's Mum on Friday. as much as i'm trying to be excited for E, it's hard when you know that people you care about are grieving...
add to that the fact that i had the bombshell dropped on me on Friday that my dad may not come out on Christmas Day - he has to work the night before and that night (taxi driver) - and if it's too busy on Christmas Eve, he'll need sleep and won't want to drive out here (about 20mins) and then back before going to work. i am feeling really bad about it all - my bro lives within a minutes drive of my parents. if Christmas was at there place, there is no way that dad wouldn't be there for his grandkids, but because we're having it out here, he might not show. as much as it will hurt that he won't be there for E, she won't know - the older kids (9, 7, 5) - they'll know... i rang my bro yesterday and had a talk to him - asked if he wanted to relocate to their place but he is grumpy at my dad about something and hasn't spoken to him for a month, so doesn't care if he sees him or not. i have asked him to warn the kids they may not see Granpa on the day - i don't want to feel responsible cos we decided to have Christmas here this year (was our turn, but we've known that dad was working and didn't change it - didn't think he'd not come seeing he said all along he would - until friday...)
anyhoot - made a test batch of chocolate fudge last night - mmmm yum! gonna have to get some more chocolate and condensed milk to make more.
hoping to get a photo of E with Santa today. but if it's busy or she is grizzly i'm not going to bother - as nice as it woudl be to have it, we have some gorgeous photos of her anyway!
ETA - we have lights up outside - and any of my friends on fb will attest to the decorations inside! just need to put batteries in some of the noisy things for the kids to play with on Christmas Day (to annoy granma - i can block it out! lol)
