I love sending and recieving cards (of all kinds) so much I bought a card shop. LOL. I always try and have mine sent out by the end of the first week in December. This year is very exciting for us because we get to add DS's name to the card and we will also recieve lot's of cards with DS's name on it.

I always think it's nice to recieve something in the mailbox that isn't a bill or junk mail. It's makes people feel good when they open the mailbox and see that someone has thought of them with love.

    Merry Christmas everyone!

My family are all well aware that I think cards are a waste of money, but I do send a few out to my grandparents and aunts/uncles because it is pretty much my only contact with them all year, so I send a card and a letter. I probably send 5 cards a year and receive less than that. I appreciate any contact from people but would much rather an e-mail that has saved paper, or a phone call which is much more personal imho.

I am a bit of a scrooge. I don't like the waste of card and paper etc that goes along with xmas. I also don't like xmas lights... houses with lights all over them make me cringe. Needless to say, I don't send cards. DH asks me to every year, but he knows how I feel and I figure if he really wanted to send them he would do it himself. I send an email around to people that we don't get to see to show that we are thinking of them.

Did them in school, stopped when i finished school, started again now that we have DD - we have a lot of family and friends that don't live local and who (shock of shocks!) don't have FB, so their christmas photo card is the only time they see her!

There are people in the world who don't have FB?! It bugs me no end that my parents deleted their FB account.

I do a photo card of the kids every year. Mainly coz everyone loves them and some family I don't talk to all year and this is all they see of us. But I like sending cards! Very festive

I send cards every year and love receiving them too. I don't consider it a waste of paper as we always either reuse or recycle them. It's far more personal than an email and imo takes more thought and effort than a phone call so I think it's a nice way of showing people you think they're a bit special and are thinking of them. Every year I get less and less and it makes me sad - will there come a time when no-one sends cards? I used to make my own every year but stopped when DS arrived. I keep thinking I should start again, but I haven't yet. I haven't done this year's cards yet so keep thinking there's still time to make them.... we'll see!

BTW, I also can't help but feel a bit peeved when I receive an obviously rushed, 'I'm only sending you a card because you sent me one' card - get a few of these every year from the same couple of people. No personal message to tell us how they're going (just To... From ...), despite it being about the only contact we have. Fine if you don't want to send a card, but don't send one out of guilt! I also get peeved when I DON'T get cards/emails/any acknowledgement from people I consider friends - if you don't think of me at Christmas, with all the warm, fuzziness going on, then when DO you actually think of me? If you don't like the card idea, invite us for drinks, email, bake etc, but it would be nice to be thought of!!!! Oooooh, I didn't know I had that rant inside, oops! Off to hide now....

I love receiving them and still send them out too. I always buy charity cards and then recycle so feel a little better about the environmental side of things and the money spent. To my folks, ILs, great aunt and DH's nanna and great aunt we send a photo card of the girls with Santa.

I personally don't like email messages instead of Christmas cards. I sort of think that if you can't be bothered to send a personal message, then I don't want the bulk produced email mail out.

JLeigh29 - I agree with your rant. If you need to hide out, head over here!

We do them every year - I love receiving them (especially in the mail) and we do a photo one of DS now I just posted mine this morning actually after writing them all last night - all 60!!
I think its a nice tradition, and I like putting them all up in the house as it just adds to all the Christmas Decorations. If people that I am sending them to have kids, I always address them to the kids too, as I like to think they get a kick out of a card in the letterbox addressed to them
