    Christmas CDs

Does anyone have any recommendations for good Christmas CDs?

When I was little we had a Disney Christmas record, and we still have it. It gets played if we have Christmas at my Mum's house, but we don't have a record player at ours so it can't be done. It had a mix of the Disney characters singing, and also a choir of sorts so it wasn't too sickening.

When I was backpacking around Europe about 10 years ago we got a really good CD called the "The Best Christmas Album in the World Ever" which had a great mix of music on it - both carols and christmas songs. But somehow that went missing in one of my share houses!!

And now all I can find is either really cheesy kids music, or far too sensible choir sung carols. And I am not a fan of Mariah Carey so please don't suggest her album!!
What I am looking for is something for the kids to enjoy and something the adults can too.....

I hope someone can help me!

I can't go past Bing Crosby! He sings the great standards - White Christmas, Silver Bells, It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas - in that honey-coloured voice of his. They are usually easy to find and cheap.

But my favourite is Christmas with the Rat Pack (Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jnr). Cool, suave, funny and just a bit 1950s......

(BTW I think I have the Disney album you are talking about - it rocks!!)

My friend has what sounds to be very similar to the Disney album you speak of but on CD... I can ask her what the title of it is... she played it in my car on the weekend for her DS whilst we were on our way to a christmas party. It wasn't too bad with a nice mix of Disney & choir.

Otherwise, I like a great big mix of all types of music genres - christmas rock, country christmas etc etc

I go onto Itunes each year, search the songs I know & love & choose the best ones & put them onto my IPOD. DS loves the wiggles christmas songs & I must say some of them I don't mind also.

We have a few funky ones here. I love Bucko & Champs Aussie Christmas Carols & we have one calle The Kris Mix which is boppy, dancey versions of regular Christmas carols.

Each year during Christmas lunch with my parents we have Tony O'Connor's Australian Bush Christmas playing which is just beautiful, it has Aussie bush sounds in the background (birds, waterfalls etc) and then the Christmas music over that. If you imagine a relaxation music CD, it's just like that but Christmas carols, very cool!

I'd jump on to the internet and buy this one again. It's the one I listen to the most and it's awesome! Gotta love Slade!!

    Thanks girls....

Doudou and Erin - do you know what? It had never actually occurred to me to download the songs I want!! preggie brain!!

And Rory - I am so with you with Bing Crosby and the standards!! I love them too! I like the sound of the other album you are talking about too... will have to go on a search!

Tk1999 - Ooh yes, can you find out the name of the album? I've looked for my record on CD before (I know I saw it on casette once when I was a child) but I've never found it on CD. I know a few years ago I searched online for it, but couldn't find it then either.

Sarah_H - That sounds lovely - Bush Christmas!

CQueen - Does that album still exist? I thought it might be one of the UK's annual releases.... they are so big in to Christmas over there that there is new stuff every year. It is an awesome CD!! I was so annoyed when it just disappeared!

Thanks for the ideas.... keep them coming if you come up with other stuff too.... there is so much out there that the quality stuff deserves to be highlighted!!

The album is called Disney Christmas Favourites, my friend said that she doesn't think it is exactly like the record version but it may well be close.

    Hope that helps xox
