I'm with you, Amy - I'm 31 & I still believe in Santa
We're very magical in our family at Christmas time - I honestly thought Luke being 10 this year that it would be over... but at this stage, I think he's still hanging in there
My plan was to have more babies before he got old enough to figure it out.. but at this point in time its not to be
I think I'll be lucky to get this Christmas in with Santa.. but regardless, we will still 'believe' in this house... I'm a Christmas nutter... so everyone has no choice
Truth be known, though... everyone likes coming here to celebrate it because of how much effort I put in... and I have nieces & nephews until I get another one of my own, so all is not lost
My eldest worked it out last year, but he is under strict orders to never tell his sisters (and now his brother) or all he'll get under the tree is a lump of coal for being a kiljoy LOL I think I was about the same age when I realised, but then I actually busted mum and dad in the act by accident. But then we've always only gotten them 1 present from Santa and the rest is from us.
I got told at the end of grade six because my mum said she couldnt send me to high school still believing. I think I knew from when I was eight or nine, but with two little brothers and the threat of not getting anything for christmas if you dont believe why would you acknowledge it!!
My DF askded his parents when he was five and then was spo upset he asked them to take it back and he believed for another two years
Evan isn't silly & last year started to question Santa. We wont lie to him that he is real but we explained to him about the magic of christmas & how santa is a part of that.
I doubt it will be long before he cottons on that its My & DH buying the presents & putting them out.
But for now his own self interests let him belive in santa.
I just went through this "dilemma" recently. My family have always LOVED christmas, the whole putting up the tree, decorating the house, presents and food but then a woman at work was almost in tears about 'lying' to her children and that made me think that I would be lying to my child too. But Christmas is magical and if you want to believe then I say let your imagination run wild. DH says I can explain it DD later so I am more than happy to do that in years to come but will gladly see her little smile and excitement of Santa arriving with presents in the meantime (although Trillian I think the one present is a good idea from Santa).
Amy, that is so cute.
Leasha, yeah, I'm thinking Santa might like a nice glass of riesling.
I seem to always peak too early with the Christmas excitement so by the time it comes around, I am almost over it. We took DD home on xmas eve last year so I am looking forward to really celebrating Christmas this year.
yep he come to our house too... DS is still a believer and I am dreading the day that he stops....
Santa even gave BHL a spud last year DS still laughs about it now and cant wait to see if he get more this year.... ATM the winkies will be getting about 3 spuds so they better improve greatly before the big man arrives....
DD recently asked me if I believed in the easter bunny and santa. I asked her why? then asked her if she believed in them, and why was she asking me that?
Turns out a friend at school told her mum that she didn't believe in the easter bunny, and she got no easter eggs, so if you don't believe you don't get presents!
I think she may be working it out, or have worked it out, but clever girl wouldn't say anything if she did LOL! She'd be working it for all the extra presents she could get. (My little budding entrepreneur, recently made biscuits with her grandma THEN sold them back to grandma!)
We leave milk out for santa and some biscuits or something else, last year it was fruit mince pies. We also leave some water for the reindeers and a carrot.
She also writes a letter to santa.
When she wakes the next morning, santa's food is usually gone, the reindeer have usually drunk all the water, but not all of the carrot/s, BUT you can see their teeth marks on the end of the carrot though! She absolutely loves that. Her letter is gone, and santa leaves one for her too. Last year he told DD that he had dropped by our house, and found that we weren't there, so he worked out we were at nanny's. Our dog barked at the reindeer, so he threw the ball for her a few times and gave her a bone.
Santa is still real in my family. Even when we ahve christmas day lunch at my grandpa and nanas house (and there are no children/grandchildren under the age of 15), he will still have a carrot for every reindeer with their name attached to it and the most amazing teeth bite marks out of them. It is so lovely to play along no matter how old you are.
I will never tell my children that he isnt real and if they come home to say it to me I will tell them if you dont believe you wont receive!
Our dogs even get presents from Santa and our dogs even go shopping and get presents for us!! Amazing isnt it!
No. TBH, I don't like the greed that seems to surround Santa these days - the signs that demand presents on the lawns, the whole consumerism culture.
And I buy DS presents all the time anyway, why store them up for months to give him them all at once so a few get ignored for at least six months? Yes, he will get something (I'm knitting him some sheep) but not the masses and masses of toys it seems almost expected to get.
Plus, isn't Christmas supposed to be about the birth of Jesus, not some fat old guy? Maybe I'm just old-fashioned, but I'd rather worship God and celebrate the birth of His son - at the wrong time of year, but still a good excuse to remember Christ our Saviour is boooo-ooorn, Christ our Saviour is born than worship some false idol raised up to greed.
ETA - the Tree. Goes up first of December OR the first Sunday in Advent, whichever is earliest. Because we do our Christmas Bible Study and hang a star every day in December and we have a big star for after the Church service in December. The angel goes on around midnight at the start of Christmas Day. I love the tree and can decorate it all month this way, whilst still remembering what we're celebrating whenever I see one of the stars.

Santa will only be real in our house cos DH wont let me ruin the whole fake story bizzo for our kids.
I was taught not to lie (or fib...make up stories..however you wish to say it) by my parents.....so this is exactly what i am doing.....lying!
...and yes...my parents did lie to me until i was 6 and i caught them being Santa and the game was over.
I hate Christmas....i have for a very long time....but i wont let my kids down and ill put in the effort to make it as fun as possible, but the minute they ask if he is real.....they will be told the truth.
