I would just do it. Every Christmas doesn't have to be the same.

Yeah I would do it. Although I have a family free Christmas every year so there wouldn't be much point

I can't see why not. i mean everyone is entitled to start their own X-Mas traditions, i am thinking of suggesting to DP that we alternate X-Mas day from now on b/w both sides of the family.. 1yr x-mas eve with his the next with mine and swap x-mas days etc.
Would love to do a JUST US X-MAS one day

you only live once and you cant live it with regret

Yep done it before and will again. But right now I can't as I won't miss seeing my 89 year old grandparents. Every Christmas with them is precious. Before kids we went to Hawaii one year.

I did it once with a friend in my early 20's and it was like I ran away and was never coming back - my family were mortified! But they survived, and we had a great, stress free Chrissy on the beach!

Last year DH and I decided to stay home instead of travel to any family, and it didn't go down well either, but if we don't do it every now and then, we are going to be travelling interstate every Christmas and we're just not up for that.

I remember we did it when I was a kid, we went to Queensland. Mum and Dad organised for Santa to come early, very considerate when we know how busy he is and Christmas fell when we were up north. I remember mum said that her parents weren't that amused, but she was a bit "too bad so sad" to them!

in theory, yup, i'd leave in a heart beat - but in realit, while my mum and her sister are around, i just can't. Mum lives for her grandkids, and her sister has an intellectual disability, and even with an explanation that it was nothing personal, she's never had a Christmas without us, and it would break her heart to not see us (and, mainly, DD) on Christmas Day.

I said to DP last year Xmas day is for US not visiting everyone.

Well this year we are visiting my fam and his fam (one lunch one for dinner) perhaps we can do alternate years for them, i would preferably like to do my own thing at home every now and again

I def would just up and go tho! We considered it this year
