Oh yes! Last year i was frantically searching the last minute deals hoping to find one as a good reason why we couldn't 'do' christmas with the ILs! This year we are going away on christmas day so won't be seeing them Hooray!
If you don't do it this year, plan for next year well in advance and let people know you won't be around. It might go down a bit better I have already starting telling people about the big trip we have planned for next christmas and how excited we are... LOL.
We've moved interstate from our families so some years we visit, some we don't. We have gone on holidays at christmas. Last year my H, son and I were campervanning in NZ for xmas. Stockings hung in the campervan was cute!
When you have children you should make your own memories and traditions. When the children are young it is easier to do alot on christmas day but as they grow they want to spend time playing with their toys at home. Travelling takes time and energy.
Our DD2 planned a holiday to Thailand and one of the dates would have meant being away for Christmas. As much as I would have missed her I realise that she is an adult with her own life to live.
As the grandchildren get bigger we will travel to them so they can spend the day at home playing, nothing is worse than having kids wanting to go home to play with their new gadgets but are stuck at a relations house. The older they are the worse they are at showing their impatience.
So Olive, go for it. Make your own memories you will never regret it.
I haven't gone away for Christmas before but I think it's something I'd like to do when the kids are a little bit older. We want to do a white Christmas one year.
If that is what you want to do i say go for it...
Personally i love the whole family thing and i would never go away, it is only one day... ( in saying that... i dont have to spend long with the IL's lol)
I want the kids to grow up thinking it is 100% normal to spend the day with family... so when they grow up they choose to come back to me ROFL
id go for it! df was thinking of buying a tent and camping this year, i managed to convince him to put that idea on hold till the kids are a little older! if hed sugested a cabin or carravan somewere, id be all for it!
