Question Car seat & sleeping on long car trip?

    Hi

DS and I are flying to QLD to drive back from Brisbane with DH. I recently turned DS car seat to frontwards facing but am concerned with how he is sleeping. Often his head falls forward and I am worried about this on our trip. I have his seat reclined as much as it will go. Is there anything else I can do? What have others done.

DS can not sit up alone yet but is over the weight and height allowance suggested for rearward facing. Should I turn him back around for the trip?

    Would love some advice.

I think its recomended that children stay rearward facing till they are at least 12months old now. My DS's car seat stayed rearward facing till he was 10 and a half months and was always in the 90th percentile for his weight.

Maybe it would be easier if you just turned it back?

DS is 9.5 kg and 73 cm long. The car seat said to turn it around once they were 9 kg or longer then 70 cm.

Head control is important....it wont harm him to be rearfacing even if he is over the weight/height limit.

You can turn them from 9 kgs, but generally you don't have to until 12 kgs, for most seats anyway. The recommendation now is to keep them rear facing until at least 12 months (or so I've been told). My DS is 16 months and still rear facing! (at 10.5kgs).

I wouldn't be happy either hun, sounds like you'd be better turning him around again.

I agree with the others. Probably best to turn it back to rearward facing again. As to being over height and weight recommendations, I suggest you call the helpline for the manufacturer.

I would agree to turn it back, we too turned ours early as Charlie was very long etc & soon realised his head would fall forward & it wasn't that comfortable for him...so we turned it back for a few more months. We now recline the car seat & use a neck pillow thing IYKWIM.

Our seat says you can turn it from such and such weight/age, but not until head control and back strength is established, so yes, turn it back round.
