Maybe a but further afield is Echuca. Gorgeous shops, sensational bakery (it's the Beechworth one) and the paddlesteamers on the Murray.

Also bushwalking or horseriding up around Mansfield and Merrijig, up to Mt Sterling and Craig's Hut. Beautiful spot.
