DF came home tonight and asked me how I felt about flying down to Melbourne for the day on Saturday (arriving late Friday night). Just for something to do....
It's because Saturday would be our wedding day if we hadn't canceled it and I've been struggling a bit leading up to this weekend.
I just can't justify the expense - there's no real reason to go. I feel like such a party pooper but it just doesn't make sense to me! We've decided to actually plan it for 3 weeks time instead so my poor brain can deal with it!
Would you have been able to pack up and go away for no particular reason with 24 hours notice?
Yes, all the time. Some of my best travel adventures have been as a result of spur of the moment decisions. I've even walked into a travel agent at lunchtime and been on an international flight that night.
Pre kids, dog and cat - absolutely. Quite a few occasions in my 20s and early 30s where we'd have Friday afternoon phone calls about where we were meeting up for a drink after work that turned into a "the plane leaves at X" conversation, and heaps where we'd have a "let's head off at Y" for a weekend away down south or something.
I used to do that sort of thing all the time before I met DH, but he is totally NOT spontaneous so that put a stop to that! I would do it if I were you - it might help you take your mind off what was supposed to be happening that day
Oh man - I was hoping you'd all make me feel normal and not like a boring old woman lol
Maybe I should suck it up and stop being a drag....
It's the money thing that gets me the most though - I work really hard to make sure we are saving to keep us moving towards our house plans and just blowing a big chunk of it seems silly.
Yep, in a heartbeat, kids and all. It's one of the few prekid things I hang onto.
But you do your weekend away when it suits you chick. What a lovely thought on his part though.
ETA I know the cost is a big deal (I think like that too), but I have learned that sometimes a little deviation from the grand plan is enough to rejuvenate and refresh.
We used to do things like that all of the time. Decide on a Saturday morning that we'd go somewhere for the weekend and off we went. A little harder now with the kids and only one income. I'd LOVE to do it again though.
we've done things like that a few times & i love it. since DS was born it's really just been to fly interstate for a day to watch a game of footy but we've always decided last minute & just gone up & back in the day. i love it - it breaks things up & it's fun. it is a drain on the finances & i do think about that but i rationalise it that we really don't splurge on much or go out much at all.
i can see where you're coming from but also think it's lovely that your DF has come up with something fun. if you need 3 weeks to process it, then that's cool - have fun when you do come down (the weather tomorrow is meant to be ick anyways!!)
