Hey there and welcome to melb
DFO at Spenser street is suppose to be good for shopping- its only new so worth a look at.
Myer and David Jones in the city is also good for shopping.

Hi there, I will be visiting Melbourne soon for several days and wanted to know if anyone has been on one of the shopping spree tours to factory outlets, if its worth it, or if it easy enough to get to ourselves using public transport? Also after general big shopping centres to browse and any crafty or patchwork shops, prob not big designer labels though as I am sure I couldn't even afford to step in the doors. Is there any major touristy things i need to do -apart from visiting the new belly belly place!-.
We will be staying in Collins Street or Little bourke street. Not sure which yet but would love some insider knowledge of what to see and do by way of public transport
Thanks in advance

As you will be right in the city public transport will notbe to hard.
Bridge road Richmond is full of factory outlets and you can jump on a tram in flinders street and go all the way there and walk around the shops.
In relation to shopping centres there is a DFO at southern cross station which is also in city centre.
Bourke st mall has myesr and David Jones.
All the big shopping centres are out of the city and to be honest i have never caught public transport to any of them.
Touristy things wise depends what you like aquarium is great as is the zoo and werribee open range zoo, state library is nice also.
