Hi Sharon, sounds like a wonderful idea. I've went to Hamilton Island when my children were 3 and three quarters and 18 months (in 2002). We had a wonderful time. There are many accommodation styles on the island and we stayed in self contained apartments (The Whitsundays) which was great as we didn't have to always eat out with the kids. The kids club (and it may have changed) had a section for under threes also but they were pretty strict on the right ages being in the right section (due to liscening issues etc) - we wanted the boys to be in the same section but they were not allowed to be. In the end it didn't matter and we had a really wonderful time. Friends went with their2 year old to Dunk Island and were very happy with it. I think Dunk is generally more expensive and the package you purchase includes all meals etc. This can be good as you know exactly how much you are up for but it takes away some flexibility and spontaneity. We also have been to South Molle Isand (in 2000 with a two and a half year old and eight month old)- the kids club was brilliant and we had a great time but the resort was a little tired and the food less good. (SM also works like Dunk in that you pay a set amount for food, accomm etc.). I think you'd have a lovely break at either of them-enjoy!
