To the best of my knowledge, you do not need to carry a letter. Your child will have their own passport which both parents signed for order for it to be issued. Unless you are have Court Orders which prevent (or in some cases allow) travel to certain countries, usually those not covered by The Hague Convention, there is no reason why you should be stopped from travelling.

I would suggest contacting the Smart Traveller/ Department of Immigration (depending on who you get bounced to) and having a chat with them if you have any concerns about proceeding through immigration/customs when you depart.
