    Sydney holiday!

    Hi!

We are headed to Sydney for the Queens bday long weekend!

We need to find somewhere to stay that is
    - close to everything
    - maybe self contained
    - can take up to 4 adults per room!

I have trawled the internet but I just wanted to know where is good especially with a baby!

Also where is some good shopping?

    Any experiences are greatly appreciated!

For shopping I guess it depends what you're after'. Glebe markets and Paddington markets are my pick of the markets.
Birkenhead point has lots of factory outlets.
I'm a bit of a midget so I like the shops in Chinatown because it's easier to find something to fit me. There's a paddy's market in Chinatown too and lots of places serving Yum-cha fro breakfast.
Oxford st around Paddington has some nice boutiques and also the area around the Crown st/Oxford st intersection in Darlinghurst has some nice shopping.
King st in Newtown if you're after some less mainstream shops.
The city of course, Pitt St mall and around.....

I dunno about places to stay, just so long as it's near public transport it should be ok. Wotif has a search option where you can select accomodation type so that might narrow it down for you.

You can get serviced apartments in the city which would be better for more people and then you having cooking facilities to. If you need to get around by public transport the city is probably your best option as it is close to most things. Look at last minute dot com and see what they have as well, a lot of places in town are busy with business men during the week and have special rates for weekends when they are not as full.
I guess you need to work out what you want to see then find the accommodation which suits that best.

DFO at Homebush has factory outlets as does Birkenhead Point

Ooh we've just moved from Sydney & now I'm feeling all home sick!! I second Glebe Markets as great to go to & there is an awesome Indian place in Glebe too called Darbar, you must go there & you must have the Malai Mushrooms... mmmmmmmm.....

Bondi has some funky markets too.

Never had to find accomodation there though so I am no help, except to say that it's damn easy to get about on public transport, even with a baby, so you don't have to stay right in the city if you are after something cheaper.

Have a fantastic time!! *isn't at all jealous* lol

You could try staying at the York Apartments on York St just off the Harbour Bridge, when we are in Sydney we always stay there. They are self contained with kitchen etc. Just google them for more details.

We mainy stay there because we can walk to most places like Darling Harbour, The Rocks markets, QVB, Pitt St Mall, also close to Circular Key so you can get a ferry to Manly or wherever. Anywhere further just take pblic transport.

The rooms are always immaculate and the staff extremely helpfull. We usually book it though last minute or wotif for a good deal BUT i would start to look at booking something NOW wherever you stay as the Queens Birthday long weekend is also when Hair Expo is held at Darling Harbour and accommodation gets booked out really fast - especially the 2/3 bedroom places as its cheaper to share.

Hope you have a great time
