i will be watching as we r also thinking of going on the boat sometime this year.
We have been on boat before kids.
From what a friend told me who did go with a 10 month old, day sail is easier, kids play area full of bigger kids (3 - 7), night sail you must book a cabin you can not go in cruise seats with kids under a certain age.
not sure of things to do without kids as most things we did were not kid friendly,

you will want a cabin for children on the spirit , as for accomadation , there is a lot of caravan parks around the state , if your looking for a caravan park as you get off the boat i recomend the Devonport Bluff one or the Ulverstone Dinosaur Park one , in which directions are u headed ?
March tends to be the warmer of the summer , and generally the winds start towards the end of the month , but not normal above 28deg , but who knows this year , but thats what it normally does .
Toursim Tasmania put out a couple of great publications and can be found online at pure tasmania & discover tasmania - there is also a childrens publication put out called tasmanian parent its a newspaper type thing found at macca's and cafe's that have a lot of tasmanian children freidnly places .

you have wine glass bay & bay of fires on west coast , if u want a beach .
stanley has the nut , where u take a chair lift to the top and a trawler port .

gunns plains caves kids love , mole creek wild life park if you want to see a devil , theres the riana deer farm near burnie .
40 deg south Salmon Farm @ meander , Zeehan has the Abt rail way , depends on which way your going as thats the west coast and quiet a drive .
on the north west coast there a hands on work farms like Anvers Chocolate at latrobe ( 10 mins from dev ) , Ashgrove Cheese @ sassafrass ( 20 mins from dev on high way ) , theres a wisky distellery at burnie ,
The Meander Dam is a Nice place to stop , one of the biggest man made hydro dams in the southern hempsire opened last year , has camping and bbq facilities thats about 25 mins out of Deloraine .
we went on boat when kids were 4 months and 2 years but we went to mainland. had a cabin and that was the best for us. was fine with kids. but because i was breastfeeding i couldn't take sea sick tablets and felt v sick and threw up too, that wasn't nice. where in tas are you planning on going ? .
theres so many places but your kids are still little so if you're wanting places you can go for them or for you but with them?
Thanks ladies....we are not sure what we are going to do. Basically dh said that I am to organise it coz it wont get done otherwise!!!! Last time I went I bought a see tasmania card which let us into all the sights. I have no idea in which direction to go. Port Arthur and wine glass bay are a definate. I'll have a look at the carava parks and probably map it from there.
We took a nearly 10months old in march a couple of years ago. The weather was nice. Much cooler than Sydney.
We took an umbrella stroller and a hiking backpack for Darcy and she was fine. We flew though.
Up past Launceston I think it was was a cool Seahorse farm, a platypus place and a fariy penguin night walk which Darcy loved.
I don't think they do the Cadbury tours anymore? not sure, but the ladies loved her on that and she got twice the 'loot' of anyone else lol.
