We went to Warrnambool the few days over xmas and it wasn't overly hot. So lucky we had the indoor pool and lots of shopping to do!

We stayed at hopkins river caravanpark. They have their own website. ANd for $116 per night for a two bedroom self contained cabin, I thought that was pretty good!

It was 3 hours from my house. Im guessing it wouldn't be much further from you if you take the fwy.

You could always come up to Shepparton and take day trips to Echuca - Moama/ Cobram / Benella/ Beachworth.

Mooroopna has the Ardmona /SPC cannery outlet..there is a HUGE kids playground called Kidstown on the causeway between Shepparton ad Mooroopna and of course moi lives here

We're staying in a cabin in a caravan park in Queenscliff in a couple of weeks - not far from Melbourne at all. I like the idea of a caravan park cos there's a toddlers room, a playground and a swimming pool (from memory). Probably a drive into town but I think the beach is close too.

Tan, We went to Warrnambool last month and it took us about 4.5 hours with one short stop in Colac. We're in the dandys so about half an hour further away than you. I agree, there's plenty to do there for a young family.
