Fraser Island, Qld. Take a 4WD and about 2 weeks to work around the island, spending a couple of nights in each camping spot. It's so relaxing, and if you go outside of school holidays quite quiet. There are wild animals which are outside the fenced-in campsites (dingos) although there are still goannas. There is history steeped in the place, and pubs with great food. If camping's not your thing, there are holiday villas or a 5-star eco resort for total indulgence. I always feel totally relaxed and rejuevenated after spending time at Fraser, the water there is so clean and perfect!

    Kangaroo Island, South Australia.

I lived here as a kid and it is just a wonderful place. There are heaps of native animals that you can see in the close up, and then interesting things like seal bay - where you can walk right near wild seals on a beach. There are also natural wonders like Remarkable Rocks, kelly hill caves, and of course the beautiful beaches. There are lots of eco tourism businesses to visit also.

KI can be reached by ferry - that you can take your car over on - that leaves from a point about 1 hour south of adelaide, or you can fly. It is one of those places that you can spend a day or a month exploring
