We have only put a lock from safety first ($10) on the sliding tv cabinet door to stop little fingers pushing buttons - annoying for us if we need to open it, but generally we dont as all the gadgets in there have remote control anyway, and the safety plugs into the power points, and we generally find it ok.

DS loves being in the kitchen cupboards with me - so I have my plastics drawer on the bottom, open it up for him - give him free reign in it, and hes happy as ever.
