Yep will do. Hopefully I get some answers soon, i have never heard of this happening before.... But apparently the bank account owner who it went to is not responding to contact from the NAB.

I hope you have some luck. I am with Commonwealth and when I am doing a transfer next to where you put the name in it actually says (something to the effect of) "We do not verify the name of the account to the number, and funds sent to incorrect accounts may no be recoverable".
Which begs the question - why do we bother putting in the account name? Although I suppose if they did verify it unless you got the name exactly right the system wouldn't match it and a person would have to manually verify it.
Fingers crossed for you...
I got one of the digits wrong with the BSB. Usually when I make a payment I copy and paste the numbers so I don't get it wrong, but the BSB often has a - in it. So a mistake.
The ombudsman said though that they would investigate to make sure all avenues were taken in recovering the money and will do their best.

That's good to hear!!
FX they follow through and the money is recovered!! My guess is the account owner doesn't want to answer and give the money back!!! I personally never spend money until I know where it came from!!!
That's so unfair! I hope you get your money back.
Okay here's what happened, I got a call from the ANZ today offering to refund the $100 in order to settle things with the ombudsman. I really appreciate their generous offer but preferred that the people who mistakenly received the money came forward. But it was good of ANZ to offer, maybe it was cheaper than investigating the issue lol.

Definitely cheaper than investigating and going through the drama with the ombudsman.
Well done
