Do you have ducted evaporative??

My aunty and uncle have evaporative air con. We evacuated there on Black Saturday, it was 47 degrees and their house was nice and cool. They left it on all night and I froze. They do have slate floors, i dont know if that makes a difference. My aunt was also telling me she has to have certain windows open for it to work effictively.

We have evaporative cooling and it does cool the house down BUT when heat is extreme outside it doesnt do a huge amount, I would love refrigerated cooling!!!

We used a stand alone fan also lots in summer.

We have evaporative ducted it is good and cost effective, but it will only keep the inside temp around 10 degrees lower than the outside and you do need to have windows open for it too work effectively. Like feeb said when it gets extreme it won't give you the ice box cooling effect.
If you don't get good flow through already you might want to ask a tech type person to check if it will run effectively with out air flow through the house.
You might end up better off with another sort of cooling?

we have it too, ours is about 20 years old and going well!! the thing to remember its ment to only cool the house to about 10 or so degress cooler than outside, so it wont be freezing cold like a split systme for example, but it does work well
