A visa debit card will only access the cash in your savings account. It's like a normal EFTPOS card but you an hit credit instead of savings.

It depends on how it's set up. DH and I have both cheque and savings accounts on our Visa debits, but the credit function takes it out of cheque for DH and savings for me.
