Yep, I would recommend altering a wooden playpen too.

When we moved from up north to a colder climate in the middle of winter we had to organise a barrier asap and didn't have time to shop around to hubby ammended out wooden playpen to fit around the fireplace and it works really well as we can just step over it and it take it down in summer.

We've just bought a gas heater for the coming winter and I picked up another wooden playpen on sale at Target for about $85 to make another guard.

Thank you so much for your replies.
I'd heard about using the wooden playpen for it but I wasn't too sure.

So Target have them for around $85 or so. That's pretty good.
    Thanks again.

We are having a fireplace put in this winter and were looking at the screens over the weekend. I saw at BBQ's galore some really nice one's for $100 - $150. They looked really sturdy and were quite long too.

Hey Teddykins, I think they normally sell for around the $100 mark, saw em in Babyland for that and that is the usual price for the Target wooden playpen too, but I was lucky enough to be in the store on a sale day so got the good price... so I was just lucky.
