I had one before I moved down here. Got a bit of attention, and was over within a couple of hours. I found that people came and the serious buyers would buy in bulk. A couple took basically half of everything I had there for about $110.
The last one I had was years ago, but I still go to them when I can, I love them! and there are heaps around still.
From a buyers persepective, I love stuff that is different & unusual, and a bargain. Not, like, plastic takeaway containers, or coathangers but then again maybe that's me - one sale I helped out at, the hangers sold. In fact lots of stuff sold that I thought was rubbish, so there you go.
Big stuff is good, books are good, big stuff to catch the eye. Lots of signs.
And I think grouping items by price is good, eg 'everything in the box 0.50c' - that kind of thing.
So the motto is, if in doubt, put it out - you never know what's going to sell.
Make sure that you price everything, advertise in lots of places (net, paper, signs), don't price stuff too expensive. Lots of people will come early I don't ever let them in before the start time though. We made about $400 at one and about $300 at the other one.
