Installing a dishwasher

Just got one installed last week. We knocked out a cupboard to put it in so had to get all the plumbing (already had a powerpoint), cost $165.

Hmm, I'm not sure if there is already plumbing there, will have to ask our builder! They were aware that we were getting a dishwasher installed, so hopefully it's already there!

Lime - how did you go about doing your own?

$165 doesn't sound too bad if it's not though

My DH installed ours. He's quite the handy man so it wasn't a big deal for him. He said it was pretty easy though. Friends of ours installed their own as well and he is NOT the handy man at all He stuffed up the cupboards a bit but other than that, it worked fine.

If your DH can't do it, you won't need a sparky just a plumber.

When we had the house built, we asked them to put the plumbing in ready for it, so the tap under the sink for the water and the little outlet on the pipe. I will put a pic up for you....

But to install it was simple, as the dishwasher hole was already there (they are a standard size, we just bought a standard size dw) It is on wheels, so you just slide it in and pull the hoses etc through the hole in the side of the cupboard (our sink is right next to it, so there is a gap left at the top of the cupboard and bench, hard to explain) and connect it up, plug it in.

It is really really easy, the trickiest bit was having to unscrew the downpipe from the sink to be able to drill the hole in the inlet bit for the drain pipe. (Again, I will take some pics for you cos it is hard to describe when you don't have all the technical terms down pat! lol)

But all the instructions are in the book for your new dishwasher, diagrams and things.

The "plumbing" is just a little extra bit that jots out of the waste pipe from your sink and of course a tap to hook up the water, most modern houses are set up "just in case"

But you also need a tap under the sink for the water supply too.
