I got one at the train station & put an initial amount on to be able to travel that day ($7 for the card, $7 for the travel) then topped up online with my credit card. I initially was avoiding them TBH but I quite like using it now

I have oneI bought mine at Southern Cross, and I just top it up whenever I'm at a Melbourne train station.

Go card, but for Melbourne. Cheaper, but not as good.
