    Question for steam mop owners....

I just got mine yesterday. My question is, I know it says not to put any cleaning products in the water compartment, I was wondering if anyone has ever put anything in anyway? I was thinking a little bit of pineoclean for doing the carpets to give them a nice smell.

    Any ideas?

i used to have one and never put anything in it.
all you can do is maybe try a natural one something that won't react to heat and is not cerosive.

let me know as i am thinking of getting another one. but i think these days you can get a chemical one too.

i just wonder how the floor is getting 'clean' with just steam?!?

I wouldn't put anything in it as it might cause a build up on the element.

I love my steam mop I never put chemicals on my floor anymore! You get used to not smelling anything and knowing it's clean. I've used enjo for years too because my sinuses go ballistic when I use chemical cleaners.

I've got one because our house is mainly tiled, I never use anything in the water and it cleans wonderfully.

Can you use them on carpets??!! I think mine is for hard floor surfaces only?

I want to get one, but having just read that it didn't clean lino very well perhaps I shouldn't bother.

I do wonder though if you put a couple of drops of essential oil in the water if it would harm it? It would give a lovely fresh smell to the house though I'm sure.

Mine has a carpet attachment with wheels to make it roll across the pile easier.

I suppose the heat kills the bugs - my cloth was very dirty after I had used it yesterday - and I only mopped Friday night!!!!!
I suppose for peace of mind you could spray a bit of cleaner on the floor before using the steamer?

i tend to spray and scrub any big spots on the floor.. and then just go over it all with the mop. i guess its just hard to get used to not using any cleaners on the floor!
at work (take away shop) our floor gets mopped with bleach.. so i relate that smell ( not that i want my house to stink of bleach!) to clean floors.

Re the lino.. SIL has a darkish green lino floor, and its the type that never looks clean... ever. however my mum has light coloured lino (similar colour to my tiles) and im sure it would work fine on her floor.

I use one and have occasionally put a drop or two of lavender oil in just because the cloth is a bit smelly.

I used to put eucalyptus oil in my last steam mop but haven't put anything in the new one after reading the instructions. I found my old one cleaned better than the new (better brand) one so it could have been the oil. I've stopped using it and returned to the microfibre mop anyway.

I've often put a couple of drops of eucalyptus oil on the cloth of mine, and it smells gorgeous whilst it is cleaning
