yep its possible. We have a freestanding dishwasher that we have installed in our kitchen. Its pretty easy to do as well.

Eta, also we have had our dishwashers on wheels in the past, and when not in use its been hidden away then comes out when its time to put it on. There are adapters you can get to put on the kitchen tap spout, and the drain hose sits in the kitchen sink. Was easy to use and we had no real problems doing it that way for the last however long.
