Every kitchen needs a little adjustable drop down thingy at about eye level for your lappy and recipe books to sit on while you cook so you can read them easily without getting ingredients on them.
And a book shelf for recipe books.
IMO.
I think deep cupboards are highly overrated myself. And I would NEVER have a sink without 2 basins.
My MIL has these thin pull out cupboardy things. May have already been described better already . They look like skinny cupboards but they pull out on roller thingys and you would NOT believe the amount they hold...and nothing gets lost -everything is on sight.
Has anyone got a photo of their corner pantry...or walk in pantry? I need some ideas as we are opening up our kitchen area (its kind of hard to explain). I have really long deep pantry cupboars and need something more workable... cheers
Oh and I really like the deep draws for pots and pans. We designed a nook for our microwave so it sits under the overhead cupboard and all the te and coffee and stuff sit on the bench under it. We have glass splashbacks and although I should clean them more often, they are easier than tiles
We've just had our kitchen renovated and loooove it...
Some of the things I am thrilled with include:
Big, deep drawers - a must in my book!
Vertical space for chopping blocks, trays, etc
At least two bins - waste and recylcing
Plenty of storage, powerpoints
Powerpoints in the pantry
Hidden microwave
Big window above sink for plenty of light
Mixer pulls out to be able to squirt water around the sink...fabulous!
Lots of bench space especially if you like entertaining...
Room to move...
Well I've never had a kitchen reno but i *love* drawers that pull out so you're never bending over scrabbling at the back of cupboards. Same goes for those roundabouty things in the corner cupboards. I also think it's *essential* to have your cupboards go all the way to the roof so you can store your less frequently used stuff up there. Also think about the optimal height for your kitchen bench, if mine was about 6 cms higher I would be much happier.
One thing we do have in our kitchen that we love is this pull out bench that extends your workspace. It's just under the stove which can be handy when you're serving up for a crowd.
Also, think about having space for an island or table so there can be some social space in your kitchen...people like to hover near where the action is, always, so best to cater for some of that space IMO.
Something I think is fabulous if you're a big baker is having a large island bench with all your baking stuff in drawers beneath and powerpoints in the top/end for your mixmaster, etc.
I love my accessories cupboard to hid everything away in like the toaster, etc. I also love my pot drawers.
My brother has one of those slide out pantrys which is fabulous as you can reach the very back without trying!
And I would consider your height - if you are tall, think about getting the benches made higher than normal to save your back.
