When you buy the paint, buy a couple of plastic drop sheets. They only cost a couple dollars each and will stop paint drops on the carpet. We used tinned tomatoes to hold them down.
If you use powder in your washing machine, the boxes usually come with little plastic scoops. We save these, and you can use them to take the paint from the tin into the paint roller tray. Try to prevent drips on the edge of the tin, cos they make it messy when you are putting lid back on and moving tin later. If you hold brush under the plastic scoop while transferring from tin to tray, it will catch the drips.
Ok, so you nesting big time. This means you get lots of energy but you must be careful. Don't overdo it. No running up and down ladders, no carting around paint tins, no dragging furniture around no matter how good you feel.
I nested like a demon with DS, I painted and decorated rooms, stripped and repainted a wardrobe and dresser AND steam cleaned the carpets myself, all in the last 4 weeks. I felt fantastic and it was this driving force pushing me to get everything done before he arrived. I ended up hurting my back and not even realising until the birth. I was in alot of pain, my back couldn't support me (AND he was posterior!), I actually threatened doing my own c-sect...
Don't do any damage ok???
Depending on the colour on the walls currently you may need to undercoat the walls first. I have done two rooms in my home and once I had chosen the colour the steps I did were this:
1- remove all furnishings
2 - lightly sand all the surfaces to give the paint something to stick to.
3 - wash down with sugar soap
4 - undercoat ( I always buy a high quality undercoat as it helps the paint stick)
5 - top coat (usually 2-3 coats)
6 - trim (skirting archs etc)
7- pop furniture back in the room.
I should mention that I have lining boards and not plaster walls but I believe the proper preparations produce a quality finish.
Have noticed your not far off from having bub so maybe avoid enamal paints coz the fumes may be over powering. You can get low odour paints so I would be looking into something like this.
